I like time travel stories but I hate "found footage" movies so this one has me ambivalent.

Re: Welcome To Yesterday

Looks like a complete ripoff of Donnie Darko.

Funny enough, I never liked Donnie Darko. And beyond both films dealing with time travel, they don't look similar to me.

I hate Donnie Darko. I remember when it came out and became a big hit on campus. And everyone claimed they loved it because "it makes you think!"

I never understood the praise it received. I honestly found it predictable. True, I didn't know the exact science as to why things happened but I could easily tell what was going to happen.

I never saw the director's cut but read that it's even worse because it actually spells everything out in unnecessary detail.

It's the same plot, it's just that Donnie Darko was more of a character study while this movie seems to be focusing more on the time travel element. Teenager has to go back in time to correct events(even including a plane crash!) to save innocent people when the time continuum gets warped, it even involves sacrificing a romance that only became possible in the alternate timeline.

I was never exposed to any annoying fanbase that movie might have had. I saw it as soon as it was released on DVD and I enjoyed it because of the 80s nostalgia factor. I never found it thought provoking, but I did find it entertaining.

Ouch for all the hate on Donnie Darko, apparently it's encountered some backlash since its release. I really like it and think it deserves it reputation thoroughly. Haven't seen it years, maybe my opinion would change with age.

I dunno about backlash. All I know is I disliked it when I first saw it back when it was first released. I was bored while watching it. The only saving grace for me was Patrick Swayze.

It was fine, but I think Detention did it better.
