Re: Indiana Jones 5 - Rumors, Casting, etc...
A recasting should be done via the James Bond route ... Not a sequel, remake or reboot. Just do it and crank out more GOOD movies that fit with the others.
I actually like Fillion as Indy. While his age is within range, I do agree with TGM: a recasting would be done with a younger actor. This would be done to possibly appeal to the next generation, but more so to provide the opportunity for longevity. The problem with this is the mistake of casting for an action film versus casting for the character who is a rugged and experienced college professor. Sorry, that does not describe somebody in their late 20s or early 30s.

Well, Disney is obviously going to have to re-cast Indy at some point, as Lucas screwed the pooch when he named Indy's son "Mutt". No one is going to see a movie where the lead character's name is "Mutt".

That was unexpected and made me laugh quite a bit!
You know, whatever happens, I'm going to see Indiana Jones 5. That's just the way it is. I mean, I could hem and haw, whine or cheer, but I'm simply going to see it. I know that doesn't contribute much, but I felt like I had to write something on-topic instead of just comment on 'Mallet's Jackie Jormp-Jomp joke.

I'd still just like one final story to cap off the saga while Ford can still pull it off and end it. Of course Disney is going to probably milk the franchise to death now that they're a part of it though.

I'm still of the stance that the day Harrison Ford is out there is no more Indiana Jones. It's not like James Bond or something where different actors have portrayed the character over a long period of time. We're only used to seeing the character portrayed by Harrison Ford since the original film over the course of the four films and I think it should stay that way. If anything have a spinoff character or something if there really needs to be more films in the series.

Regardless, I don't think Disney is looking to reboot...they're looking for another film with Ford.

Thanks for deleting my post during the thread-merge!
I posted that I wonder if this acquisition has any impact on the possiblity of adapting the wonderful book Raiders! into a movie. It's a cool story of two tween boys in the mid-80s who by themselves create the ultimate fan film, and I think the story could work as a film -- sort of like Super 8 without the need of a supernatural angle. I just figured George Lucas would keep the film from being made because he's often a jerk about his properties.

Disney and Armie Hammer together for a big budget summer movie? What could go wrong?

Is there any reason to think there won't eventually be an Indiana Jones reboot, à la Casino Royale?

Except in this case it is not the studio it is Harrison Ford. He wants to make more Indy movies. In fact, if Lucas wasn't so Lucas-y about "his" franchise, there would probably be several more Indy movies already.

Nobody had seen different actors play James Bond through the the first five movies either. You are fine with it now, aren't you?

In my opinion that's a pretty different comparison though. The Bond films have all been made fairly close together so the transitions were a bit more seamless as they happened. Harrison Ford has been the only person to play Indiana Jones since the first film debuted back in 1981 (I don't really count The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles since the series is set before the films or River Phoenix in The Last Crusade since his part was only brief). If there were already a bunch more sequels to it and maybe the torch was passed a few times it would be different but as it is he is Indiana Jones for all time. I really don't see how anyone else could be put in the role at this point.

Really? That is understandable but does he honestly think that a seventy year old man can still be like classic Indiana Jones? Honestly it will be like a completely different movie. He needs to be sat down and reminded gently that all things must end.
