Of late, I've been trying to be less cynical. News like this does not help.

Meh. Most likely, this will come and go and will be forgotten and have no impact on the memory of the original. Much like the sequel to A Christmas Story that no one remembers.

I saw most of those, and I don't remember any of them being a reversal on the premise which was stvn1974's point.

Wouldn't George Bailey's grandson be in his 50s by now?

It took re-reading your post again to make me remember that there was in fact a Christmas Story 2, so I think your theory is correct.

There's actually two sequels to A Christmas Story, although one of them is simply based off of another Jean Shepard short-story about Ralphie's family taking a summer family vacation.

Then, last year there was the DTV "A Christmas Story 2".

I personally don't like It's a Wonderful Life, so this news doesn't exactly bother me although I think it's kind of odd. Isn't the longest gap between sequels right now The Odd Couple & The Odd Couple II?

Ah, I gotcha. I somehow missed the "role reversal" part of his comment.

And I'm sorry you had to see most of those. No man should be subjected to that many terrible "It's a Wonderful Life" parodies. That's the kind of stuff they banned during the Geneva Convention.

Re: "It's A Wonderful Life" sequel in the works

The sequel, titled “It’s A Wonderful Life: The Rest of the Story,” is being produced by Allen J. Schwalb of Star Partners and Bob Farnsworth of Hummingbird. The duo are aiming to get the movie into theaters for the 2015 holiday season.

Farnsworth and Martha Bolton have written the screenplay.
So I looked him up.

Hummingbird Productions designs audio and produces music for commercials. We are most well known for music and advertising like “Always Coca-Cola”, Wrigley’s “Double Double Your Refreshment” and the “Budweiser Frogs” sound design. If you are looking for a custom music producer or audio post production company, you have come to the right place. Over the last 35 years our composers have been writing music for TV commercials and here you can sample our work.
At Hummingbird Productions we write, arrange, produce and license music for films, soundtracks, documentary films and shorts. Our senior composer, Bob Farnsworth, has composed music for numerous IMAX Signature films, including a Paris Film Festival award winner, commissioned for the Philadelphia Orchestra.

So a guy who writes jingles for TV commercials and movie soundtracks suddenly says that he's writing the sequel to It's A Wonderful Life? I don't believe it.

Re: "It's A Wonderful Life" sequel in the works

There was a sequel, of sorts, to It's a Wonderful Life: a 1990 made-for-TV movie called Clarence, the further misadventures of George Bailey's bungling guardian angel. I saw it once. Clarence has been messing up; he had lost his wings and is further punished by aging in reverse. He helps some people and some other stuff happens. It was so exciting, I couldn't stay awake.

It's a Wonderful Life 2: Wonder Harder
Tagline: "Every time a bell rings, a Hollywood script writer gets a shitty idea."

PS - I find it amusing the number of times the word "fuck" has appeared in a thread about one of the most wholesome family movies ever. Which reminds me, if this isn't R-rated and 3 hours long ...

A bell doesn't have to ring for that.

Re: "It's A Wonderful Life" sequel in the works

Update: Thankfully, it looks like this sequel won’t be happening. According to a report from the AP, a Paramount spokesperson said no film related to It’s a Wonderful Life can move forward with a license from the studio. They added, “To date, these individuals have not obtained any of the necessary rights, and we would take all appropriate steps to protect those rights.”
