I love Jackman as Logan but he still does feel neutered in the films. The guy has claws popping out of his hands. There has to be blood if that's pretty much his "thing" that we all love.
The Wolverine was close to that w/ the Extended Cut. And better for it.
We get the loner, we get his rage, and so much of everything else EXCEPT that he's you know... pretty much killing people but we never really see the full on damage he inflicts. It's too much implied sometimes.
Does Logan need an R film? No. But I do think it would be better for the character due to his... weaponry.

I'm glad they're pushing for an R rating. As Deadpool has shown, there is definitely an audience for edgier action movies. I always felt that Wolverine was more of an edgier X-Men character.
So from that article posted in the previous page, is the official title "The Wolverine III" or is it just a working title?

Somewhere Darren Aronofsky is thinking "WTF."

I don't think Wolverine necessarily needs an R rating to work. I can see where it could be beneficial in some ways but I think that Deadpool was a different story all together. Deadpool is known for being more profane and violent so the film needed to be rated R for it to be close to the source material.

It may not be necessary, but let's be thankful that some of the studios are taking some more risks with these properties. Marvel's films will surely still be PG-13.

Yeah I'm not really against it I just hope that the success of Deadpool doesn't lead to studios and filmmakers thinking they need to one up each other or be more edgy/violent just for the sake of it. I mean with Wolverine there have been a bunch of PG-13 entries with the character and in my opinion the rating hasn't hurt any of the films directly.

More Rated R action movies is a good thing, and Wolverine is a very appropriate character for that rating. If they were making a Rated R Green Lantern I could understand skepticism.

I think filmmakers should just make the movie they want to make and let the MPAA rate it whatever they want to. I'm not a big fan of studios dictating to directors "you have to make sure this is a PG-13" or "we need to make this violent enough to get an R."

That's really surprising to me, especially since he's an already established character with younger fans that are definitely going to want to see the character versus Deadpool which was largely unknown.
The talk about having different cuts makes much more sense for Wolverine.

This news is great. But the crybabies whining " why can't they release both versions" will get very fucking old fast.

I'll be disappointed if this really is his last turn as Wolverine and they don't get an X-Force movie made featuring Deadpool and Wolverine.

Yeah this is the main issue I have with it. It almost seems like Fox wants the film to go R just because Deadpool was successful with that rating. I mean if the film that's being written warrants that rating that's fine but don't just try to force it for no real reason.

I love Jackman in the role but if they can find a suitable replacement - and they'll have to - I'm game.

It'll be odd regardless. Hugh Jackman was 31 when he debuted as Wolverine, and he's just grown into the part more and more with time. So now I'm going to expect whoever takes over the role to be equal to modern Wolverine, not 2000-era Wolverine, while also being substantially younger.

That would be an interesting experiment for a movie like Wolverine 3 since all of the X-men movies and prior Wolverine movies have been PG-13.
Put out both versions at the same time and see which one is the most successful. Not only would they get huge publicity out of it but they would likely have many people going at least twice to see the two different ones. I know I would take my kid to see the PG-13 version and then go again to the R rated version.
Just a thought.

I always think of X-Force as the Cable led one rather then the more recent Wolverine led one so this doesn't bother me, but I would like to see them in a movie together somehow.

I imagine if/when they make it it will be some blend of new and old. Cable definitely. Domino probably, given Cable would be present, and the cinematic nature of her powers. But probably also some previously-seen characters from X-Men, like Psylocke and Archangel, depending on how X-Men: Apocalypse is received. Wolverine and Deadpool would be a fun dynamic, though.

Has there even been a R rated version and a PG-13 rated version of the same movie out at the same time in theaters?

It would just confuse people. Guaranteed people will just look at the showtimes and not notice that there are different ratings.

Yeah, that's why they choose to release movies in either 3D or 2D, not both at the same time.

People know about that though and it's made clear usually right in the title of the listing. Plus there is the price difference. People aren't used to differently rated cuts of the same movie being released at the same time. I guarantee there will be bitching from people who didn't understand the difference and saw the wrong cut. People are stupid.
