Broken Lizard's Super Troopers 2 (4/20/18)

I loved the first and it surprised the hell out of me. Just came across this by the same Broken Lizard gang and thought people would be as stoked as I am...

It's supposed to be a prequel set in the 70s. It's been in development hell for a few years though, I don't know if it's still supposed to come out.

IMDb isn't always accurate.

I'm still waiting for an eventual release of The Slammin' Salmon.

I heard about this a while ago, and I also heard a rumor somewhere about it being set in the 70's and the guys playing their fathers. Dunno if this is true and don't even remember where I heard it, but I loved the first, so I'm in.

This is crazy, because I usually love stoner pot movies.

But the first movie was the only movie I have ever walked out on (I almost walked out of Wing Commander, but I wanted to finish my popcorn, and it was cold outside lol).

I mean, I even loved their movie Club Dead and Beerfest lol.

Weird, since I'd say most people loved Super Troopers but every effort after that has been far weaker. At least that's the case for me, up until Beerfest which was enjoyable.

I wonder if they plan on making Potfest from the end of Beerfest. I love all their movies. ST is by far my favorite.

Yeah, I've found that everything else these guys have done, I have a really hard time getting all the way throuhg. Beerfest has it's moments, but I would never watch it again.

I love Super Troopers though, wasn't expecting this news. Definitely looking foward to this.

IMDB means absolutely nothing, they have dates for projects that don't exist all the time. I'm not saying it couldn't happen for 2010 release; anything's possible since this wouldn't take long to shoot, but keep in mind the group announced back in 2006 that they were going to do the film as a prequel, but as of late-2007 (the last time my team spoke to them), they hadn't even written a script or approached Fox with a story yet. Plus, they said they wanted their next project (after "Beerfest") to be a film called "The Babymaker" that Jay was going to direct and Kevin would star in. And that obviously hasn't happened yet. AND they have a project called "The Greek Road" that I believe they also want to do before a "Super Troopers" sequel.

So, proceed with grain of salt.

The movies that have come since have failed to capture that same magic ... and nobody has mentioned The Dukes of Hazard yet ...

... always cynical when a sequel/prequel rolls around ... but I'm still in.

Broken Lizard's Super Troopers 2

The outlandish American comedy troupe Broken Lizard has been making movies since 1996’s college laffer Puddle Cruiser. But their 2001 cop comedy Super Troopers is by far their most popular, having been accepted as a contemporary cult classic. Group members Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter, and Erik Stolhanske get asked about the possibility of a Super Troopers sequel at just about every opportunity. The latest of these occurred in an interview on John Canzano’s radio show Bald Faced Truth this past Friday, where two of the crew were promoting their live comedy show tour. Lemme and Heffernan, who played Mac and Farva in the first film, not only confirmed plans for a sequel, but also promised it’s coming soon:

"There is, there is going to be a sequel. It’s actually happening right now. We just sealed the deal with Fox, who owns the rights. The script is written, and later in the year we’ll do the shooting."

Rumors about a Super Troopers sequel have been floating around for years, but the first confirmation that a script was in the works came in 2009 while the Broken Lizard crew did press for the restaurant-set comedy The Slammin’ Salmon. Back then Soter and Chandrasekhar (Foster and Thorny in Super Troopers) said the script sent the titular troopers to the border of the US and Canada, where a recent land reassessment has determined that some areas previously thought to be Canadian are actually American. So these crazy cops are assigned to the newly declared US border towns to keep order amongst some angry ex-Canadians. However details on the latest script have not been released, so we don’t know if this will be the plot of the soon to shoot Super Troopers 2 or if the cops will be up to some other insane shenanigans.

The next mention of a sequel arose in the summer of 2012, when the Chandrasekhar-directed comedy The Babymakers was gearing up for its theatrical debut. Then he and Heffernan admitted they were working to get Super Troopers 2 going, but their was a "legal situation" over the rights that needed to be resolved first. Finally, earlier this year when Heffernan and Lemme were doing press for a stand-up special, they suggested these legal obstacles had been overcome, and that the sequel could be in production by year’s end, which brings us to today.

Lemme and Heffernan’s comedy tour seems to be the main source for updates on Super Troopers 2 lately. And with a string of shows scheduled in Canada over the next week, we expect there will be more questions asked about this sequel, and hopefully more details dropped.

Why not? Everything they've done since has been unwatchable shit. Slammin' Salmon, Club Dread, Beerfest... hours of my life I desperately want back. It's just so damn odd because I loved Super Troopers.

To each their own, but I really like Beerfest. The Slammin' Salmon and Club Dread were awful.

I'd welcome this.

I actually liked Slammin' Salmon. The closed setting was kind of fun. Beerfest was a good time. Never saw Club Dread.

Love them all except Puddle Cruiser and Slammin' Salmon. Then again, I've only seen those once.

Beerfest is just as funny (and as endlessly quotable) as Super Troopers, and Club Dread is an underrated gem.

Agree with Mallet, Beerfest was decently fun and Club Dread had a few good bits in it. Slammin Salmon was pretty bad though.

Still on board, Super Troopers is one of my favorite comedies, even if it drags toward the end.
