San Andreas (2015, D: Brad Peyton) S: The Rock, Carla Gugino

The Rock announced on his Facebook page that he's playing a helicopter pilot in a new earthquake disaster movie called San Andreas (no relation to GTA).

Not much else is known, but here's the article.

Story takes place when a massive quake strikes California and centers on one man who must make the treacherous journey across the state to rescue his estranged daughter.

I generally like Dwayne Johnson, but I'm sure this will be bad, through no fault of his own.

Would like to see Andy Richter cast as comic relief.

Couldn't be worse than 2012.

Yeah I like Dwayne Johnson too and also like the occasional disaster movie but this doesn't sound very good. I suppose the description isn't much to go off of but meh.

The Rock has yet to be in a great film, Infact he hasn't even come close. I do like some of his films, but none enough to own or repeat watch though.

As a wrestler however, he was TOP NOTCH.

So he gives someone the Rock Bottom & it destroys California? That's some Chuck Norris level coolness.

To each their own and all that, but he was a good addition to the Fast and Furious franchise which are great action movies and are well worth watching again (in fact watched Fast Five again the other day).

This is interesting, because at Universal Orlando there is a modified Earthquake ride called Disaster in which the audience/participants take part in the creation of a fake trailer for a disaster movie starring Dwayne Johnson.

Sounds a lot like The Day After Tomorrow. I'm assuming they're negotiating with Roland Emmerich to direct.

Chuck Norris would dig a hole and tell the tectonic plates to knock it off.

Chuck Norris wouldn't dig a hole--- he'd tell the hole to dig itself.

So you've never actually seen any of his movies.

I don't think as an actor The Rock is aiming to make really great films. At this point at least I think he's staying in his comfort zone and doing entertaining films that fit his style (mostly action). I do think that he's grown as an actor throughout his films though and he's given good performance in Fast Five, Fast & Furious 6, and Pain & Gain in my opinion at least.
