Vampire Academy: Blood Sisters (2014) - (D: M Waters; S: Zoey Deutch, Olga Kurylenko)
Nice to see the Waters brothers collaborating on a film.
Directed by Mean Girls helmer Mark Waters with a script by Daniel Waters (Heathers) based on a bestselling book, Vampire Academy follows Rose (Zoey Deutch, Beautiful Creatures) a half-human, half-vampire who must protect a Moroi vampire, which are basically like vampire royalty. She and the peaceful bloodsucker she's sworn to protect, her BFF Lissa Dragomir (Lucy Fry), have been caught and forced to return to the school they once fled, where they face demons both literal and figurative – think Mean Girls for vampires – as well as a hot mentor Dimitri (Russian actor Danila Kozlovsky).

My sister's best friend growing up was the author of the series. Therefore, I am bumping.

Never heard of this. But I like the talent behind it.

Hot chicks in this but looks atrocious. Hollywood is going to get bit in the ass for buying out YA properties to make into films.

I thought John Waters was making a vampire pic for a minute there, with hot chicks.
I am now disappointed.

With no offense meant to Eddie's father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roommate who wrote it, this sounds more than a day late and a dollar short. About a week late and $10 short I think. Any genre movie that has its first release be Title : Subtitle is asking for trouble.

It would be cool if someone were to adapt Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark-Hunter, Dream-Hunter, Were-Hunter, Hellchaser, and and The Chronicles Of Nick series. Of course, if true to the books, most of the movies would be NC-17.

Much better trailer:

Still think it's a rental at best, however.

I saw a trailer for this in front of Catching Fire last night. Just laughably bad. I mean I'm sure it will play well in the pre-teen demo but it just looks awful. Maybe if the movie was a satire it would work.

That's what I was hoping for given the writer and the director. The second trailer seems to suggest it is indeed a satire but it doesn't look like it's firing on all cylinders. Apparently the source material takes itself seriously they unwisely chose to do it half satire and play the other half straight.

Yeah, after Beautiful Creatures, The Host, and Mortal Instruments have already flopped this year I almost think they would be better off trying to hide the YA roots. Even the title 'Vampire Academy' is so on-the-nose and cheesy, like something for 12 year olds. I don't know how big the fanbase is for this series, but it's going to be an uphill climb to sell this outside that demographic.

Twilight and Hunger Games were big movies because, in part, the books were huge across numerous age groups. Buying moderately popular franchises to turn into movies isn't going to have the same yield unless there is a lot of cross-over success to be had.
