Fucking nice. Cornish was pretty damn cool with his film.

Not bad news, but I thought Attack the Block was mediocre at best. Never saw why there was so much love for it.

Brad Bird would have been an awesome choice. Cornish not so much.

I loved Attack the Block and I'd like to see Cornish's take on Star Trek.

I hated Attack the Block. I've rarely seen a film populated with so many unlikeable characters.

J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay have signed on and are co-writing Star Trek 3 with Bob Orci and Damon Lindelof

They have no previous feature experience.

Joe Cornish is supposedly still being considered as a director.

Orci is writing without Kurtzman? That's odd. I figured Abrams would pluck more writers out of Bad Robot-land.

Likewise. I only liked Nick Frost and the lead girl cuz she was hot.

Re: Star Trek 3 (2016)

I was figuring it'd be Matt Reeves, or probably another shoot-fast TV-bred director from Bad Robot.

Unless Paramount is pulling a Universal by giving a huge budget to an unproven director, I'm guessing the budget for this will be a fraction of that of either previous movie.

Re: Star Trek 3 (2016)

Roberto Orci is an odd choice as a potential director for the 3rd movie. He's mostly known as a TV/feature writer and has never directed before.

He's barely a decent writer, but directing? Yeesh.

Re: Star Trek 3 (2016)

Orci will have to try really hard to make the movie worse than Into Darkness.

If anyone can make a worse movie than STID, it's Orci.

As mediocre as STID is - the highlights are Peter Weller and Benedict Cumberbatch. That's pretty much it.

Re: Star Trek 3 (2016)

Star Trek Into Darkness really made me lose a lot of the enthusiasm I had for this new take on the franchise. I think to change that with the sequel the film really needs to land a solid director and writing team who have done good sci-fi before, yet can make it appealing to the mainstream audience like the last two films have managed to do. I just really hope the next film is an original idea rather than another rehash.

He's never so much as directed a television episode before, if Paramount are willing to indulge him in this, it'd be a pretty big gamble with a big-budgeted franchise like this.

If they do another rehash of a TV episode I'm hoping we get a mirror universe movie.

The first two films are basically that already.

Well, I meant a crossover movie with the evil Enterprise crew, ya know...where Spock has the beard. Was that universe rebooted as well?
