Jimmy Marcum isn't really iconic. Who is it ? And Harvey Milk is iconic ? Someone who hardly anyone, IF anyone, had ever heard of before the movie ? It's the same thing with Selena. The vast majority of people had never heard of her before the movie....

Id throw in Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow as noted by james20256894187a and I would argue Hunter S Thompson. I think if I see someone in a bucket hat, cig in a holder and aviators, Im thinking Thompson. That seems pretty iconic to me.

I was thinking the same thing. Holmes is no doubt an iconic character, but is Downey's portrayal of him iconic? Probably not, at least not yet.
