Blue is the Warmest Color: Director's Cut Possible
I guess this is why Criterion already announced a double-dip.
Cannes Winner Could Become Much Longer
La vie d'Adèle aka Blue is the Warmest Color won the main prize at the Cannes festival this year and managed to stir up some controversy in the process which is not only due to the explicit sex scenes it contains. While it has yet to hit several markets theatrically, there's already speculation floating around about a possibly longer version on home video.
With almost 180 minutes of runtime, the film is already a test for patient audiences, but director Abdellatif Kechiche now talks about a final cut of his movie that could have substantial additions:
Kechiche is also interested in doing a sequel, so it seems that the film might have room for more news in the future.

"In terms of final cut, this cut is shorter than what the final cut will be, which will probably be about 40 minutes longer than this one."

Ooooh. I've yet to see this but it is on my list of the more recent stuff to see.
I'd be game for something like the Che and Carlos sets.

anybody on here see this yet? How is it?
I assume it has a great story to it. Is the sex that graphic between two women that it had to get an NC-17?

I think all the media focus on the sex sequences are a touch overblown (yes, they are present and explicit) in so much as it takes away from the fact that this is an excellent movie about young love/relationships.
The film is a coming of age story that deals with how teens find and deal with love and relationships (universal concept). Perhaps b/c it is a French film, the homosexual aspect of the central event is refreshingly a narrative non-event. This isn't an "It Gets Better" movie, but an exceptionally well-made coming of age tale.
If you like that particular sub-genre of film (400 Blows, The Outsiders, etc) this is a must-see.

I gotta say, this is definitely the based-on-a-comic-book movie of the year.

Holy shit, this is showing at my local AMC in the heart of my lilywhite suburb! I wonder if it's a censored print (or encode, as the case may be, although I hate saying that), or if they're really gutsy enough to be showing a genuine NC-17 film alongside the endless showings of Michael Bay movies and LIEMAX? Three hours is an ass-numbigly got long time to sit, but I really should if they're actually doing this, just to support the movie.

The Criterion in BD only includes one audio track and that's a French 5.1 DTS-HD MA track: http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Blue-I.../77701/#Review

yeah, Criterion is not known for including english dubs unless it was supervised by the filmmaker.
Also on Feb 25, the movie hits Netflix instant, for those that don't want to blind buy it

yeah, since it was released in the US with the NC-17 rating, they wouldn't cut it,

This movie felt like what an uninformed/unread straight person's ideal vision of what a rocky homosexual relationship would be like. Too long and predictable for its own good. I don't think we'll look back on this one kindly in a few years.

I'd imagine there wasn't ever a dub prepped for this film anyway, if they wouldn't back off on the NC-17 rating, the art-house circuit was probably the only place it'd play, and the audience wouldn't likely be chomping at the bit for a dub. I wonder how many major chains (Best Buy, Meijer, Target, etc.) will refuse to carry it because of the rating? Not that it's the kind of thing which would get much commercial distribution because of the subtitles anyway.

what's going on at that timecode? I'm pretty sure this film isn't anywhere near the use of the human body as In The Realm of the Senses.
Talking about that film. I can't decide if I like this film or not. BD is very nice looking and the story is interesting. The lengths they went to tell it is appropriate but I dunno. Something about it.
