Buster Keaton as the Indian in 'Pajama Party' - it wasn't insulting just ridiculous and outright bizarre:

Well, Israel isn't known for its tolerance toward Christian filmmakers, so most Biblical movies are made elsewhere. For example, "Passion of the Christ" was largely filmed in Italy, and Israel banned it.

Yeah I'm sure Mel was chompin' at the bit to head to some Jewish homeland ')

And so many Christian filmmakers/movies have been filmed in Israel, it hardly abides the telling. Jesus Christ Superstar, for starters...

Technically, an American as a Scot. Lambert is from Great Neck.

I always gave Banderas a free pass in The 13th Warrior for the very reason you stated. Besides, he definitely looks like he as some Arab blood in him.

Was Day of the Falcon any good?

I read Mel actually asked the Israeli government for permission to shoot there, but was turned down. His later comments while drunk are inexcusable, but I don't know his heart, and neither do you. I also wouldn't call "Superstar" a Biblical epic, since its portrayal of Jesus runs very contrary to the Bible, even making Judas Iscariot a hero.

I have never heard anything about Israel not allowing "christian" movies. Where did you get that?

Aint nothing Long Island about him.
Did not know he was married to Diane Lane for 6 years and has a daughter with her.

Although born in the USA, Lambert is French. His father was a French diplomat stationed in the US at the United Nations at the time of Lambert's birth.

......Christopher Lambert's family left the US when he was only two years old. His father was a United Nations diplomat assigned to Switzerland and, as a result, Chris was educated at private boarding schools in Geneva.

Hence why I used the word "technically". But, yeah, he's American by birth.

And on the subject of French actors who aren't really French, Jean Reno isn't French but of Spanish descent and born in Morocco. His real name is Juan Moreno.

I've heard different reports on it with various projects. Sadly, the nation of Israel is largely divided between Orthodox Jews and Muslims, so Christians aren't treated very well there. One guy I met who grew up in Israel said his family disowned him for accepting Christ, going so far as to hold a funeral for his "death".

I was really surprised to find out he has severe myopia, which renders him virtually blind without glasses.

Not that I'm the biggest Israel-booster on the planet, but the Christian population in Israel has grown from 34,000 to 140,000 in the past 50 years. It's the ONLY country in the Middle East where the Christian population is growing. Church custody of Christian holy sites is a right strictly enforced by the Israeli government.

Comparatively, during the Jordanian occupation of the West Bank -- never opposed by anyone in the world, despite a continued apartheid system -- Christians were barred from all Old City holy places, and their population declined by half as they left the area (or were booted out).

Hell, they even provide free Christmas trees every year to churches, embassies, foreign journalists, monasteries, convents, etc.

His French dub on Miyazaki's Porco Rosso is superb.

Re: Ridiculous/insulting racial casting in films

Speaking of Jack Black, how about this offensive casting:

Did it not occur to the racist fucks at Dreamworks to show a little sensitivity and cast an actual Chinaman in that role?

Re: Ridiculous/insulting racial casting in films

^^ They should have reversed his role with Jackie Chan's to make it more culturally sensitive. What would there be to complain about? You could easily make out every fourth or fifth word of Chan's dialogue.

Re: Ridiculous/insulting racial casting in films

I know this is just Groucho being Groucho but I'll play along.

May as well have recast everyone except for Jackie Chan and James Hong (and Michelle Yeoh, if you count the sequel).

And who would you cast in the role of "Monkey"?
