I think it was Tuesday late afternoon I got an email to attend a preview but the showing was in 3 hours. Now if only I had received that email the day before, I could've made plans.

Saw today. Huge Fav fan. I loved it. It's just such an enjoyable film. Loved the "Cardiff" nod. and the "keep him there" Godfellas reference.

Scarlett looked so good in this.

Light-hearted is usually code word to mean devoid of merit - but screw it, this movie is just a damn fun time. Food porn, humor and a soundtrack that has you dancing in your seat. The kid plotline, which I was sure would be terrible - because kid plotlines usually are - is the real heart of the movie and works completely.

I wholeheartedly agree - and the character of Percy never really fell into any annoying cliches. It was also nice to see Sofia Vergara less shrewish and haggish than her Modern Family character.

of god, did this make me hungry for dinner after seeing this!

Re: Chef (2014, Favreau) S: Favreau, Downey, Vergara, Leguizamo, Cannavale, Johansson

While for the most part the movie was enjoyable, I thought the ending was too sentimental and contrived. It was like a Disney movie from the 60s.

I don't understand how he could be at the same restaurant doing the same menu for 10 years. He seemed to have a passion for expanding his cuisine. And if a food critic really liked a chef, why would he wait 10 years to revisit him and his restaurant?

I thought the kid was cool. And I liked the way they handled the tweets getting sent off. The food porn was really nice. I liked the idea of taking the food truck to different cities though I didn't like that it was a hit everytime it arrived. I would've liked to have seen at least once city where they found empty streets. Some kind of curveball.

I would give it a mild recommendation. I love spring rolls and how perfectly nice they are rolled but I thought this movie needed a bit more meat.

Re: Chef (2014, Favreau) S: Favreau, Downey, Vergara, Leguizamo, Cannavale, Johansson

Saw this yesterday. Really enjoyed it. I would not recommend anyone who is on a strict diet or hasn't recently eaten view the movie, as it would be torture. I like to try cooking stuff on the side from time to time, and will definitely be trying some of the material in this one. I've had a craving for a Cuban sandwich since viewing it.

I thought the kid plotline was going to be cliched, but it wasn't. In fact, I think if they were to cut back on all of the F-bombs, most of which were in the first half, this could have been a pretty family friendly movie. The ending was definitely the kind you see in Disney, not that I objected. I also liked the fact that Vergara was pretty restrained and not doing her over the top stuff. She seems like she might actually be a good actress after all. Loved the RDJ cameo as well.

Does a link to some of the recipes in this movie exist? I would like to give them a shot.

This movie reminded me of a happy version of Station Agent, and I really enjoyed it. Honestly, I wish it ran a little longer.

However, being single, broke and on a diet I can't give it a full recommendation as I now want a kid, a food truck and some good food. Sofia Vergara would be a nice bonus.

I saw it again a few nights ago, stayed for a bit longer and there was a small clip of a chef teaching Favreau how to make the grilled cheese sandwich, and talking about the zen of cooking.

Loved this movie. Definitely the sleeper of 2014. Such great writing and acting. And a terrific cast. BTW, Favreau got buff again for that horrible Vince Vaughn/Reese Witherspoon Christmas movie. He just gained all the weight back.

Re: Chef (2014, Favreau) S: Favreau, Downey, Vergara, Leguizamo, Cannavale, Johansson

Watched this last night and really enjoyed it. It's nothing particularly special or spectacular, but its engaging and well done. I usually dislike little kids in movies, but the actor playing Percy did well and the relationship with him and Favreau definitely carried the movie. I'm also glad that they really didn't inject additional conflict or drama towards the middle of the movie during their long drive; I kept expecting something to crop up, but i was glad to see it kept simple and between him and his son. I actually didn't care for RDJ in this though, i'm getting a little tired of his shtick since it seems like he just channels Tony Stark in everything now.

Finally got around to watch this. Wow, what a great movie, and a terrific idea to weave the effects and influence of social media into the DNA of the story. Just wished they would have reigned in the profanity a bit. Easily could have been PG-13 if not for the F bomb.

Wouldn't have been too realistic if you had chefs not dropping the F bomb. Watching my few chef friends cook, even in a social setting, there's just no way around stuff like that.

While I agree, I would say that
Spoiler:
Favreau railing Johansson is not very realistic.

I watched this on a flight last week. Cool little movie with some big names to add gravitas. I'm not a chef but I love to eat tasty food, and this movie had me licking my lips the entire time. And not just because of ScarJo or Vergara's presence. Having just been in NOLA recently, where I ate at Cafe DuMond almost daily, it was fun seeing them down there. Great seeing Platt in there, too. He's so good as being the kind of dick you have to admire.

Well that's the perk of being the writer and director, you get to bang ScarJo and and have a kid with Sofia Vergara.

Yes but it was slightly trashy ScarJo that was attracted to bad boy chef Favreau.

You would not bang the *slightly*trashy Scarjo in Chef?

And let's be honest, while I thought Favreau did a very good job, he was far from a bad boy.

what the hell? "bad boy"? didn't get that impression at all either. just someone passionate about his job but being held back by the man. (unless tattoos are all it takes to be 'bad boy' these days.)

LECHON!

Since this thread is here, was it just me or was that grilled cheese sandwich he made for his son just infinite cheese with some bread? I know the real life consultant was giving him advice on it in the end credits, but in that situation, any kid is going to fucking like the sandwich if you put that much fucking cheese in it.
