Macbeth (2015, D: Justin Kurzel) S: Marion Cottilard, Michael Fassbender

Natalie Portman is headed to Scotland on the big screen.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actress has been cast opposite Michael Fassbender in a new big screen adaptation of Shakespeare's "Macbeth."

The Oscar winner will play Lady Macbeth with Fassbender in the title role.

The latest version of the classic play - filled with plenty of blood and gore - will keep Shakespeare's language and takes place in the 11th-century.

This marks the pair's second collaboration, as they just wrapped production on Terrence Malick's latest untitled film (which also stars Ryan Gosling, Cate Blanchett, Christian Bale and Rooney Mara) about the music scene in Austin, Texas.

Production of the Justin Kurzel-directed movie is slated to start later this year, but first up audiences will see Natalie in "Thor: The Dark World," which hits theaters in November.

Will we have to refer to it as the "Scottish movie" or leave the theater to perform a cleansing ritual?

Maybe it'll work. Certainly Fassbender's got the range for Macbeth. Hard for me to imagine Natalie Portman with the domineering evil required. Has she ever been intimidating? She's still more like a waif in my eyes.

I'd sort of like to see her play MacDuff.

Lady Macbeth got naked in Polanski's Macbeth Though if Portman wouldn't do nudity when playing a stripper, it's probably never going to happen

This did NOT work for Ralph Fiennes' "Corionalus", which also kept Shakespeare's dialogue.

My expectations are mild.

I'm not sure what century Macbeth takes place in but the dialogue and the setting of 11th century sounds fine to me. Damn. It has been a while since I've read it.

This will give you an idea of what this will be like in terms of dialogue. At first I thought it would be an interesting and original, but over 2 hours it reallllly dragged the movie down.

It's been done twice: Olivier and Branagh...both films are excellent. I've heard the TV version with Tom Hiddleston from last year is good too.

Yes, up to and including Whedon's Much Ado About Nothing. I'm not sure why Coriolanus is being called out as some sort of aberration here.

Pretty much all of them do. Shakespeare's language is the point of Shakespeare, however famous his plots and characters seem to be.

Yeah. I was confused as to why Coriolanus was being called out. My fave Shakespeare based film is Throne of Blood. Mifune, man. That guy was intense.
