That is a nice poster. The movie looks silly and derivative. I'll certainly check it out as a rental, unless the word is really bad.

I predict... interesting first half, slow mid, a slight up surge in action, and then downhill from there....

It has Michael Bay's name in the credits, so the whole of the Internet must automatically hate it. In all seriousness, the director's screenwriting resume is patchy, consisting mostly of TV work and pretty badly-reviewed films, and he only has one other directorial credit. But we'll see. I'm sure someone with too much time on his hands will write about the premise combined with Bay's alleged politics . Heady and Hawk are the only names in the cast I recognize.

The ads are starting to air. Just saw one, ironically during 'Duck Dynasty.' I don't think DD is their target demo. But damn this could be interesting.
EDIT: Oh yeah, you should see the comments on Facebook. DD fans were NOT HAPPY about that commercial airing during the season finale.

just saw a commercial
it made it seem like purge night had been going on for a few years
by then, unless planning for it was punished during the build up to purge night, I'd expect people to have created fortified neighborhoods with walls and on purge nights they'd have overlapping fields of fire to protect their houses from the scum
I'd also expect that after a couple of years of doing it the novelty of getting to do what ever you'd want would have worn off for everyone but those that would be criminals on all other days too, meaning that it'd be a free fire night to clean up the scum and there wouldn't be much scum left

This appears to be the same, tired, family protecting itself from murderous intruders schtick that has been around for decades.
That stupid expression on Ethan Hawkes face when he turns toward the camera in the trailer is just...
Seriously, they should pay the writer of the Star Trek episode "The Return of the Archons" royalties.

I am very much looking forward to this after watching the trailer.
Edit: Sorry got this confused with another movie What's that movie where the couple of ghost hunters help out a family? That's the one I'm looking forward to
This one seems just meh, nothing spectacular but I'm sure it'll be entertaining enough.

THAT one looks good, thanks Although for this one, it's Ethan Hawke. He can just stand in the middle of a room for 2 hours without moving and I'll be entertained

I watched this film from last night premiere. I would have to say this is so badass, Headey stole the show at the end of the scene. After the film they have Q&A with directors & Lena Headey but Ethan Hawke didn't attend and both siblings (Max & Adelaide) was there too. I'm gonna watch it again this Saturday.

> 60% and < 90 minutes is about the best you can hope for from a horror flick.

This pulled in $3.4M from Thursday late night showings alone. Huge number for a low budget horror film opening in the crowded summer season. Should be an easy #1 this weekend, way above the projected $20M opening. Should be over $30M with an opening like that.

Re: The Purge (2013) (D: DeMonaco; S: Hawke, Heady)
Saw it. Lena Headey doing a good job of acting against type aside, this was nothing special. The premise serves as little more than an excuse to do the traditional family stalked by crazies deal, complete with a stupid twist end that one can see coming from quite a ways.
I'm curious
Also, I don't care what the premise claimed, there's no way on a night like the richer neighborhoods would be safer. In fact, I would say a lot of pissed off people who want more would be banding together to go target those areas specifically. I also think the rich would have enough money to afford living in a fortification complete with a private army boasting enough fire power to wage a war if necessary.

Down to 40% at RT and the majority of the reviews make it out to be just a series of home invasion movie cliches. What a surprise.
