Re: The return of Godzilla?
I know this is Fantasy/Sci fi and all but...
From real life structural standpoint the "Always 2 G" and to some extent the "feral G" in the 2nd pic, are the most realistic. A creature that size, whatever size they choose, would have to have the proper leg/hip placement to withstand the weight. Godzilla standing straight up isn't realistic. That's why T-rex's in Museums no longer stand straight up and they're a lot smaller than a typical G-design.

I think the atomic breath is a dead giveaway Big G isn't realistic.
But remember the last time they tried to go "realistic" with Godzilla?

Re: The return of Godzilla?
I seem to recall many of Japan's best scientists were a bit hazy/confused about Godzilla and his origins. Or they did know, but it was changed in the next movie so he could dislike some other nonsensical creature.
The more important question is: Why do all island natives, aliens, mutants, whoever.....look Japanese?

Here are some pictures of the tshirt Legendary had made for Comic-Con. Pretty cool, huh? This isn't just your average tshirt though. Apparently it uses something called "Augmented Reality" (I have never heard of that before) to create a special effect of sorts.
Talking Dog was tapped to create this effect and you can see how it works on their blog. Want to try it yourself? If you have a webcam, print this pdf of the graphic and then go here.
Beyond the novelty of the AR effect, I have to say I am really encouraged by the look of Godzilla in the graphic. It actually looks like Godzilla (what a concept!). Of course, we're still real early in the game so who knows how close he'll look to this in the movie.

Re: The return of Godzilla?
Looks kinda cool in a, "My kid brother is no pro artist, but he's good and he did this Godzilla painting the other day" kinda way.

I like the new Godzilla concept art very much.

But since this is still very early in pre-production, I can't fault it too much for being vague and generic.

Re: The return of Godzilla?
In Kitamura's Final Wars, wasn't that Australian monster actually the throwback (or insult) to Emmerich's "realistic" version of Godzilla?

The neck is sort of too bulky and the head is scrunched in. The spikes on the back are weird, almost like the artist didn't know how to draw perspective properly (actually that might apply for the whole picture with the things I just mentioned, maybe that's part of the "augmented reality effect" I don't have time to investigate right now) The teeth aren't great either. Honestly not too crazy about this.

I got to see Final Wars in a packed theater (a big, old style one mind you) full of scifi/horror fans as part of a convention. The collective sound made by them after that scene is one that I will cherish to my dying day.

So elaborate more on the effect of that scene!? Can't just leave it like that ...after rubbing it in how you experienced the film itself! Sounds like it was a lot of fun ....

Re: The return of Godzilla?
It was incredible. And I'm somebody that tries to give G98 the benefit of the doubt, I even keep the DVD on my shelf with all the other G films.
But it was like all the pent-up anger of the memory of the '98 movie being released all at once in a 13 second orgasm. Even though Zilla's appearance in Final Wars basically canonized the '98 movie, the fact that the real G was able to take Zilla down so easily made it worth accepting the American attempt into the big G family of films.
