I just got back from a free military screening of White House Down. Bottom line: Typical Emmerich crowd pleasing spectacle, smallest body count of any of his films, very little blood, lots of humor. The kid actually plays a pretty huge role overall, Tatum does a decent "every man" John McClane clone, Jamie Foxx was pretty good as the President. It comes off as a Die Hard Lite in the White House. I had a good time, and I am pretty sure my wife will enjoy it.

Did you see Olympus Has Fallen? If so, was it better/worse than that?

The ending with

ran sour for me as I think it could have been handled differently. But the movie is pretty fast, definitely fun, and not a bad way to spend some time in an air conditioned room.

A couple of friends saw this and thought it was a very good action film. And these guys are bigger dicks than me when it comes to reviewing these type of films.

I think I'm giving this one a pass until DVD. I don't like the comedic tones that were shown in the second trailer. Not to mention... I loved OHF, so I don't really feel like seeing something similar too it so soon.

My wife and I saw this last night. It's in no danger of winning any awards, but it's probably the most entertaining action film I've seen this summer, mainly because they take an inherently absurd concept and double down in it. There's lots of humor to go with the action, but it doesn't so much make fun of itself as acknowledge that it's getting crazier and crazier and just unapologetically goes for it.
