I in someways wouldn't mind a remake of this film if only to get a better production design and budget for the story. The biggest issue with a remake of this is that there is no way anyone can make Plissken as fucking amazing as Russell. This is where a remake of of the film is doomed to fail.

A remake had been attempted not that long ago at New Line with producer Neil Moritz and The Crazies helmer Breck Eisner, with Gerard Butler, Jeremy Renner and Tom Hardy all mentioned as potentials to play Plissken. That effort ended when New Line let the option lapse almost two years ago.

Honestly, I don't get the hate for remakes now.
If it looks shitty, don't see it.
On the positive side, it might steer some young people to see and acknowledge the original.

I'd rather a filmmaker take a shot at making something original. Theaters are full to the brim with sequels, remakes and franchises. They take the spot of something that could be original and brand new. I'd rather see something original over seeing Liam Hemsworth trapsing around as Snake Plissken in a remake that contains none of the elements that made the original great in the first place, and if they do stay true to the original. Whats the point? Hey, this movie is a lot like the original Escape From New York. You know what else is? THE ORIGINAL ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK.
Then again I could be wrong, all the other John Carpenter remakes have been great so far right?

I don't think the remakes are bad. They're just forgettable. As with any movie, when you're not lending your own voice and making it your own, you're just a poser. Making what people before you made. Nobody remembers those movies.
