Well, I had already resigned myself to the fact that this was going to suck. Now it's confirmed. Wiseman did a decent enough job onthe Underworld flicks, and I haven't seen Die Hard yet, but I don't see him successfully pulling off this remake. Hell, no one, not even Carpenter himself, could possibly improve upon what already is.

Hauk: You go in, find the President, bring him out in less than 24 hours, and your're a free man.
Snake: Bullshit!
Hauk: I'm making you an offer.
Snake: Get a new president.
Hauk: Is that your answer?
Snake: I'm thinking about it.
Hauk: Think hard. We're still at war. We need him alive.
Plissken: I don't give a shuck about your war... or your president.

Escape from New York is one of my favorite films of all time and I will gladly see a remake. I don't know about Wisemen directing but I'm not going to shoot it down. If this is a good movie then great, if not, oh well. The original will still be the great movie it is after this remake gets released.
I am anticipating this one.

If it's good it's good; I'm not one who really thinks that a bad remake in anyway taints the original. That isn't to say I think this will turn out well: I have no opinion at this point.

Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Maybe Wiseman should try talking his wife into starring in this movie. I will watch anything with Kate Beckinsale in it.
