This was fantastic. Saw it in a sold out show and the audience was laughing throughout. Bale really disappears into his character, and Bradley Cooper is unhinged. Lawrence is a scene stealer, of course, as is a certain supporting actor who I will not name because his involvement may be a surprise to some people.

Great film. Fantastic cast, hilarious, and the stylistic choices melt away in the first half hour (that is, you are no longer distracted by them, skin aside).

I know I'm in a tiny minority but I thought it was just good, not great. Bale was amazing as always, but Cooper's character was too cartoonish for me; he was so unrealistic that he seemed to exist in his own reality where nothing has consequences. I dunno, didn't work for me.

My twitter feed is ablaze about Jennifer Lawrence's appearance on Conan last night to plug the movie.
I didn't see the show but she talked about the time she tried to hide her copious collection of butt plugs from the hotel maid. Apparently they were found under the bed.

Ive seen a few people mention it but after seeing this, one gets the impression David O'Russell REALLY liked goodfellas or casino. From the style to the use of music during scenes (i was shocked there was a score!) Performances range from good (Cooper) to great (Bale, Lawrence and Renner).
I may have to sleep on it, but i'd put this as a movie with some damn good performances but as a movie, nowhere near as good as some critics and award circles are stating.
Last thing, this has surpassed Spring Breakers as the best use of a character singing an existing song in the movie. When you see it, you'll know where it is.

Yeah, a friend of mine made the comment "this was the second Martin Scorsese flick that I've seen this week." When I asked what the other one was he said Wolf of Wall Street. He implied that American Hustle is very Martin Scorsese inspired.
