Re: 2013 Golden Globe Awards Discussion Thread (Movie Edition)

I didn't watch it. Reading this thread tells me all I need to know.

Well, not exactly all...there are some remaining questions:

Why was Jodie Foster making a speech there?

Why was Kevin Costner making a speech there?

What has either one of them done lately to bring them to this year's Golden Globes ceremony?

Why was Jodie Foster making a speech there? Life Time Achievement Award
Why was Kevin Costner making a speech there? Best Actor for Hatfields and McCoys
What has either one of them done lately to bring them to this year's Golden Globes ceremony? 47 Years in the business and staring in a mini-series that had cable's largest ad-supported non-sports audience ever

Costner was the main man behind one of the best television mini-series I've ever seen.

Not to mention how she compared her experience after The Princess Diaries to the stigma Sally Field faced after The Flying Nun made her a punchline... just STFU, Anne.
I think Hathaway is a very talented actress but I agree that she came off as a douche last night. I hate the fake surprise act. She knows that she absolutely crushed her role and that she'd easily be winning these awards. Stop acting as if this was the biggest shock of your life.

I love Buscemi's expression in that last pic (reproduced below). It is like he cannot remember if he locked the door when he left or not.

Kevin Costner was lame. It was like he was giving a lifetime achievement speech he's never going to give.

Jodi Foster was an incoherent, rambling, fool.

And this.

Wow, I'm always down for Salma Hayek in terms of her looks, but what the hell? Is that hair dye on her forehead? She has a small forehead to begin with, so homegirl should not have teased the hair up.

OK. I have a piece of shit Dell laptop at work and the colors and details look like shit on the web. Just wondering. (Why anyone would choose to view the web on a typical Windows box is beyond me.)

It's those dark as hell angel hairs on her hairline that made it look like hair dye at first glance to me.

Re: 2013 Golden Globe Awards Discussion Thread (Movie Edition)

I found some highlights on the web and now wish I'd watched the damn thing.

Wiig and Ferrell's bit about seeing all five of the nominated movies was hilarious.

Fey and Poehler are wonderful. Why don't THEY host the Oscars?

Anne Hathaway's acceptance speech was fine. I liked her little tribute to Sally Field. I don't get the complaints here.

Jodie Foster was fine. I don't get the complaints here.

Stallone and Schwarzenegger looked like they switched bodies: Stallone's head looked too small, Schwarzenegger's head was too big.

Kate Hudson looks like Jennifer Lopez with blond hair.

Here's a link to the website where I saw these clips:

The complaint was that she took the microphone during the Best Picture speech and thanked a few people she forgot to mention, before the actual winner was allowed to speak.

Plus it definitely felt like she was ragging on the role that got her famous in the first place (Princess Diaries).

Oh, I didn't see that part where she took the mike. As for ragging on her role in PRINCESS DIARIES, I didn't like anything she did before Catwoman, so that doesn't bother me.

I didn't like anything she did until Les Miserables. I thought she was highly overrated and rarely moved the needle. Les Miserables was a very good performance though.

It's the simple fact that The Princess Diaries was her breakout role. She was cherry picked for that movie and got to work alongside a legend like Julie Andrews. It may have been a fluffy comedy aimed at young girls, but it's not like she labored for years to get serious parts afterward -- unlike Field, who actually had to work hard to change the public's perception of her and to be taken seriously as an actress.

Did you watch the whole speech? The clips used in the various recaps make her sound quite eloquent (which she occasionally was), but a good chunck of it came off as self-indulgent rambling to me.
