Re: 2013 Golden Globe Awards Discussion Thread (Movie Edition)
I saw this on Deadline thought it was funny -
Jessica Chastain's win - A lock. And she reminds everybody how hard it is to make it as an actress in Hollywood. Jessica Chastain may be one of the few articulate and intelliegent thesps around. Not to worry: the town pretty soon will beat those annoying traits out of her. They like their actresses mute and dumb.

some thoughts on the show.
-Anne Hathaway is obnoxious
-Jessica Chastain is beautiful, graceful and modest.
-Tina Fey and Amy Poehler got screwed over in regards to how much screen time they got. They were by far the highlight of the show.
-Kevin Costner gave a very heartfelt speech.
-Bill Murray was the only actor I've ever really cared about winning an award. Everytime he's nominated I'm 100% behind him. His speeches are second to none. I didn't see Hyde Park on Hudson so I can't exactly say he was robbed. But we the people were certainly robbed of a great acceptance speech.
-Finally someone has the guts to admit that Harvey Weinstein kills people.
-Wiig and Ferrell were great.
The teleprompter breaking down was awesome. It reminded me of the SNL sketch with Will Ferrell and Cheri Oteri (I think Oteri) where the prompter goes down on their morning show and they have NO IDEA what to do.
Halle Berry and Salma Hayek DO NOT AGE. Hayek's breasts were in fine form tonight as usual.

I know a lot of people can't stand Will Ferrell or Kristen Wiig, but holy shit that bit was hilarious. And not easy to pull off either.
I also agree with a lot of your other comments.

Re: 2013 Golden Globe Awards Discussion Thread (Movie Edition)
it wasn’t an f-bomb that set off a gasp in the press room at the golden globe awards on sunday night, it was the n-word. Quentin tarantino employed the controversial term in the context of discussing his film, django unchained, for which the writer/director won best screenplay. The movie, which employs the slur over and over again in the course of its 165 minutes, has struck controversy in the african american community for its portrayal of a slave-turned-bounty hunter in antebellum mississippi.
When asked if he was ever shaken by the use of the n-word while making django, tarantino responded:
“if somebody is out there actually saying when it comes to the word n—–, the fact that i was using it in the movie more than it was being used in the antebellum south in mississippi, then feel free to make that case. But no one’s actually making that case. They are saying i should lie, that i should whitewash, that i should massage, and i never do that when it comes to my characters.”
the reporters in the pressroom were taken aback by his use of the word, but don cheadle, who followed tarantino backstage for his win for house of lies, used the opportunity to make a subtle point.
When he took the stage, he said: “please no n—– questions. Black people questions are alright.”

Re: 2013 Golden Globe Awards Discussion Thread (Movie Edition)
^ If the Tarantino quotation is accurate, I have no problem with it. He used the word in context to refer to the word itself, big deal.
I know Louie CK had made this part of his act, but it is true, saying the "N-Word" is the same thing, but it just makes people feel better. The point of a word and why words have meaning is that they put an image or idea in a person's mind when said (generally, the definition of the word). Saying, the "N-word" simply puts the word "n&*#*@" in the listener's head. It is the same as saying the damn word only it has been deemed socially acceptable to do since the speaker is not technically saying the dirty word albeit it is having the same impact on the listener.
If a non-black person were to beat up a black person, shouting throughout, "You stupid N-word" it would be a hate crime just the same as if he shouted the actual word itself.
So far it seems cooler heads are prevailing in regard to QT's in context, inoffensive use of the word regarding coverage, but who knows, it is still early yet.

Not really sure how to go about researching this, so I'll pose the question in this thread and hope that the collective trivia train of DVDTalk might be able to answer:
Is this the first time that someone has won a Best Director Golden Globe who wasn't also nominated for an Oscar in the same category?

And never was that on greater display than last night. I hated how she crowbarred her way to the front of the pack during the Best Picture acceptance to thank even more people she forgot for her win. Totally self-centered. Even the producer(?) who spoke after her seemed annoyed.
Not to mention how she compared her experience after The Princess Diaries to the stigma Sally Field faced after The Flying Nun made her a punchline... just STFU, Anne.

Didn't think to look towards Wikipedia for a comparison chart -- and, really, I probably should've just looked there first before posting anyway. Thanks.
