That looked to me like the '50s logo, exactly what would have been on some of the Randolph Scott/Budd Boetticher westerns.

Also who was the woman who's face they never showed?
That was Zoe Bell, who you may remember from DEATH PROOF. (She was also Uma's stunt double in KILL BILL.)

Re: Django Unchained (Tarantino, 2012) — The Reviews Thread

I saw this on Saturday afternoon. A solid 4/5 for me.
Not his best film, but still excellent. I felt like it was missing some of the tension that his other films had. Sure, there were a lot of great moments throughout, but nothing that had me tense up like when I watch IG (like the opening, the pub scene, or the restaurant scene in that previous film).
Like others, I think it was a bad idea to put himself in the film... especially with that terrible accent. I think he may have also done a voice in the KKK scene, but others here may have already pointed that out.
Anyway, I enjoyed it quite a bit, and I look forward to a repeat viewing on Blu-ray.

I suspect we'll see a lot of cut scenes on the BD -- either as an extra or as part of a new cut of the movie. QT was editing this thing up until a few days prior to its premiere. It kind of felt that way as well in parts.

I gave it 3.5/5. I don't have a problem with long movies but this one felt like it needed to lose 20 minutes or so.

Probably didn't help that I saw a 9:50PM showing in a crowded warm theater after working all day. I will probably like it more upon a second viewing at home.

The Columbia logo is a pre-1976 version with slightly distorted colors.

Exactly we got 1 deleted scene from Kill Bill. Nothing from Inglorious Basterds, I really want to see Maggie Cheung's scene. No proper deleted scenes for Death Proof, we did get the extended cut but that's different from officially deleted scenes. What I'd love to see the extended cut (whatever that may be) of this film.

Ok thanks, but what was the point of her in the movie. She was in, I think two shots and she had her face covered and didn't do anything.

Cameo? Worst one ever.

rumor has it her character has no lower jaw and there was to be a big reveal of it at some point but it was either cut or not shot for whatever reason.

Well damnit. Now I want to see wtf Zoe Bell looked like w/o the bandana in the film. And yeah, that wasn't in the script at all. So now that's an exciting bit for me.

Yeah, there were a lot of deleted scenes. They didn't appear on the DVD and blu-rays of the film because QT held onto them for a prequel he's never going to make.

I really wish we saw Zoe Bell's character get that reveal, or do something more substantial. Otherwise they could have just removed the extra scenes where the camera seems to linger on her a bit.

I know that. I'm talking about what we actually got. We also had those extended/alternate scenes in IB. Seems like QT became more personal about this deleted scenes after JB. RD, PF, and JB have a good chunk of deleted stuff on their DVDs and/or BDs.

He did say that he did say somewhere most recently that he only wanted to give out a deleted scene if it brought no impact to the film as it was. I can respect that...but I still want to see Maggie Cheung's scene in IB goddamnit. There was Roth's scene w/ getting all those names on the bat, etc, etc.

Re: Django Unchained (Tarantino, 2012) — The Reviews Thread

I thought it was a good movie, excellent in spots.

I wasn't thrilled with that out of character moment that Tarantino came up with in order to give the film one of it's epic bloodbaths, though. I think he could have come up with another way to get the same end result without having a very smart character suddenly do something very stupid.

Still, overall I give it a 4/5. A definite blu ray purchase. Tarantino is one hell of a writer and director.

I thought Zoe Bell's bandana bandit mask was just a tip of the hat to the original "Django" which had some side characters disguised like that.

They are even seen in the trailer for the original "Django" starting at about 50 seconds in:

I didn't mind the final 45 minutes like others seemed to have. Rather, I felt the first two hours were a tiny bit slow. Not a deal breaker by any means. Still a fantastic movie.

Re: Django Unchained (Tarantino, 2012) — The Reviews Thread

I've heard two interesting thoughts on why Dr Shulz did what he did...

1. He knew Django didn't have a chance with Candie still alive. He had to give Django a chance to fight his way out and get away. With Candie being dead.it would be easier to do so.

2. ( I like this one a lot) The Dr. let emotion and pride get the better of him. All through the film Django had every chance to let emotions rule his actions and on every occasion he decided to do the opposite of his emotions and it was a good move every time.

I'd agree more with that latter assessment . We already had the former situation take place with Big Daddy trying to kill them for the Brittle Brothers situation, I'd like to think Candie would have left them alone after they left, though maybe Stephen would try to persuade him otherwise.

What came to my mind was the classic MASH episode "Tuttle" where Hawkeye creates a fake Captain Tuttle to get supplies for the orphanage.
