The Wedding Ringer 3/5
I actually found it amusing and it wasn't as bad as thought it will be.

Oldboy - 2/5

A man who was imprisoned for 15 years seeks revenge on those responsible for his captivity. Overrated, ridiculous and very full of itself. No wonder Quentin Tarantino loves it.

Oldboy (2013) - 3/5

Spike Lee's leaner, less convoluted and dare I say better remake of the overrated Korean revenge film.

You're the only person that I know to actually like the remake. I have not seen it due to the first one being epic.

Never saw the original but I did see the 2013 version and enjoyed it. As far-fetched as it was, Brolin and Olsen were excellent and it kept my attention. Definitely worth a rental

Re: Last Movie You Watched Thread

My main issue with Lee's version of Oldboy is the final 3rd of the movie has no impact, it's passive and is, simply put, poorly executed. Really enjoy the original so I may be bias, but Lee's was just lazy film making above all else, even if they did get rid of a few aspects I didn't like in the original.

--

Gravy (2015) - Watched this on Vudu. Written/directed by James Roday (Psych) about a group of 3 psychopaths that take over a Mexican restaurant and engage in some deadly games with the patrons and staff. If you've seen Roday's horror movie "homage" episodes of Psych you know what the tone of the movie is, just make it R rated and throw in an absurd amount of gore and goofy humor. The movie was hit or miss but I found it pretty memorable, it included scenes such as
Spoiler:
Lily Cole ripping out Gabourey Sidibe's voice box with her teeth, feasting on gourmet prepared body parts, Sutton Foster covered in blood, and a 10 second Psych reunion.
. Stars Sutton Foster, Paul Rodriguez, Jimmi Simpson (McPoyle!), Sarah Silverman, Gabourey Sidibe and Lily Cole -- who I have never heard of but am now a big fan of, she ran away with every scene she was in. Not great but I was entertained by it.

Machete Kills - 1/5

Robert Rodriguez has solidified his hack status with this piece of shit. What the hell happened to this guy?

It's fine as a grindhouse flick - come on. It's trashy as all hell, which is great.

No it's not fine. I've never seen a real grindhouse flick filmed in high definition and loaded with CGI.

I've said this before : as a grindhouse flick Black Dynamite shits on both Machetes.

Cavalry and Camp X-Ray on Cinemax and Showtime

Maybe Kristen Stewart can act when she is not doing Twilight movies?

Pan - visually and aurally the movie is amazing, yet someone in the writing aspect of the film forgot to give the characters any depth or even the acting which ranges from hammy to "why am I in the movie in the first place"

The Final Girls - A higher quality Last Action Hero with a cheesy 80s horror/slasher flick instead of an action movie. Great cast, really entertaining movie.

The Martian...riveting. absolutely, undeniably riveting. excellent work all around. was simply enthralled from start to finish. there is no beating around the bush. he's stranded from the onset and the tension and drama and humor never lets up. loved this one!

Nevermind, it was a buck cheaper yesterday when I rented it, it's back up to $6.99 SD / $7.99 HD

Re: Last Movie You Watched Thread

apparenty yes. I just go to Family video on Friday afternoons and grab a couple movies. I try to grab one comedy or something the wife will like. Then something else from the list. Serena just happened to be next on the list. Don't remember why I put it on there in the first place. probably the Cooper/Lawrence pairing.

Re: Last Movie You Watched Thread

The fact a movie staring Lawrence and Cooper went straight to video is the biggest single red flag imaginable.

Immoral Tales - 1/5

Four erotic stories about forbidden acts that span from the 15th century to the present. Pretty boring softcore porn trying to disguise itself as a Ken Russell or Pier Paolo Pasolini arthouse film.

Map to the Stars - 3.5/5
What a mindfuck of a movie and Julienne Moore performance was jarring.
