seven of those last weekend were at the Virginia Film Festival - so seven movies in three days - eh, typical for me.

Dazed and Confused Great movie, other than the hazing very realistic for the time.

Detroit Rock City OK movie, not a KISS fan and the acting was not good, did not show the rock/disco dynamic at all well.

Over the Edge Great movie, it really captures my jr high to high school years, the chemicals, car stealing, partying, relationships with specific cops. The best of the three.

Freaks and Geeks Ongoing, another great and accurate snapshot of the times. This is to my teen years what The Wonder Years was to my kid years.

Bright Future - 4/5

Story about aimless youth in Japanese modern society and the contrast between the newer & older generation. Another good film from the great Kiyoshi Kurosawa that deviates from his genre origins and more into dramatic territory.

R.I.P.D. : Rented the BD yesterday. Horrible movie. Total ripoff of Men in Black

Saving General Yang: Pretty good period war/martial arts movie directed by Ronny Yu.

Nice, you saw Saving General Yang too. Thought it was really well made. Pretty compelling story.

Re: Last movie you watched

Finally got around to watching both parts of Batman: The Dark Knight Returns. I found one last steelbook of the "Deluxe Edition" at Target and decided a blind buy was in order.

Overall I really enjoyed it. I don't have much experience with DC's animated feature length films so I don't have much to compare it to but it surpasses every other one I've seen to date. I thought part II was the better of the two mostly because the action really picked up but part I also had some great stuff, especially the final fight in the water.

Elysium - - Too heavy handed in spots but otherwise a very entertaining action flick
Prisoners - - Takes its time, but is very entertaining, tense and occasionally twisted
Jack Reacher - Entertaining but truly terrible dialog
RED 2 - as a fan of the original, this was a huge step back

Were these playing at your local $2 movie theatre? Well Reacher has been on home video for over 6 months now.

It's good to see Ronny Yu directing again. Hadn't heard from him in years.

Event Horizon - 3/5

A missing spacecraft reappears seven years later emitting signals of life on board. A rescue mission is sent with the man who designed the craf tin order to find out what happened. Decent sci-fi horror film that borrows elements from Hellraiser, The Shining, Alien & Solaris.

Re: Last movie you watched

I agree Jack Reacher was an extremely poorly written movie for the talent involved. What a disappointment.

The Girl Next Door (2007)

Disturbing, ugly, reprehensible and misogynistic.

Reacher and Red 2 were watched on Vudu.

Prisoners and Elysium at a friend's house, he's one of those guys.

Homefront - 3.5/5 - Jason Statham still got mad skills! I didn't know Sylvester Stallone was mentioned as screenplay.
