Renner seems to be coming back:

Back to True Detective, you like the series, it is a short-term commitment, and they're casting for Season 2. Is that specifically something you would consider doing?
It's kind of unlikely. In fact, I'm kind of strapped time-wise doing Avengers 2, and Mission: Impossible 5 is rearing its head, and then they want to do another Bourne movie. It's unlikely I can find the time right now. And that's all right. It's just really high-class problems — pretty awesome to have. Even if I really wanted to do it, which I don't, I couldn't.

Looks like the rumors are true that HBO is focusing on Well known actors. I liked Renner's character in MI5, but it is still Cruise that makes the whole thing go.

True, but it's nice to get more recurring characters.

I would like to see Maggie Q and Jonathan Rhys Meyers return for this one.

It would be great if they retcon the Jim Phelps from the first film as simply being a cover identity and not the character from the series.

Yeah, Renner is fine but Ethan Hunt is why I enjoy the series. Although most people have issues with M:i-2, I've enjoyed all of the movies so far and I like the approach Cruise has with getting these made.

I was going to disagree with the people saying that Cruise is vital to these films, but then I remembered that it was his batshit crazy drive and demeanor that was directly responsible for a lot of the most memorable stuff in the series. And I certainly don't want him replaced with Mr. Poutyface.
And I fully support a retcon explaining that "Jim Phelps" in the first movie was just an impostor. My suggestion: he was really Dan Briggs, mad with jealously about being replaced by Phelps and hellbent on ruining his reputation.

I hope they get Steven Hill to shoot a flashback where he gets surgery to become John Voigt.

I wonder if they'll release it in April 2016 and hope it does similar business that Cap 2 did. The only other title for that date is The Mummy reboot. May currently has Batman v Superman, Cap 3, and X-Men.

As one to JUST have seen the film. That didn't bother me. Granted I've only seen it fully once.
I've seen you mention the Phelps bit at times....soooo the film series is a continuation of the TV series?

I'm still skeptical Captain America 3 will even make that date.

Re: Mission Impossible 5 (D: McQuarrie)
For a long time I just assumed it was a reboot, which would make the whole "Phelps as a villain" thing less horrible for me, but the special features on the Blu-ray make it pretty clear that it's actually supposed to be the same character from the show. References are made to characters Phelps worked with on the show, and in the original draft of the film's script, all of those agents being killed off in the first act were supposed to be the original cast. They all turned it down and it was rewritten, thankfully.
Of course, it's essentially a reboot as far as modern audiences are concerned, and the fact that Jon Voight was at least a decade too young to be playing the same Phelps from the TV show makes it kind of ludicrous, so I just prefer to think of it as a reboot.

Mission: Impossible 5 ‘set to become the first film to be shot inside Houses of Parliament’
Tom Cruise will reportedly be using the iconic building to film scenes for the fifth Mission: Impossible film.
The Sun reports that it will be the first time that movie studios have been granted access to Houses of Parliament.
A source told the paper: ‘MI5 will feature numerous well-known locations in London but the Houses of Parliament is clearly the biggest coup. Tom Cruise will obviously feature heavily in the scenes.
‘You can imagine the writers are excited about what stints they could pull off inside the Commons.’
Movie bosses are said to be looking into shooting at other London landmarks including The Shard and the Olympic Stadium.
Expect to see some cringe photo opportunities with various politicians and the A-list star.
Tom recently revealed that he hasn’t thought of a name for MI5 yet.

I was thinking something like this, this or joining forces with them. Even better if they could cast some of the actors from the TV show Spooks (MI5). Either way, I'm hoping for some more goodness like what we got in MI4.

Off Topic, but at some point, before Cruise is done with the character, I would love to see them cast Gary Oldman as the villain. Won't come close to what Hoffman did but would make a great foe against the IMF.
