I'd like to see them approach these as a trilogy at a time, rather than random one-off films...but at this point I'm good with anything. (except remaking the existing films) just proceed with any of the numerous story lines already developed over the last 20yrs....doesn't lucasfilm own those anyways?
Hamill as a link/nod to the previous films (such as Spock was in Star Trek) in a supporting role for the first film would be great.

If it is about Leia and Han's kids Carrie Fisher could do a cameo and maybe explain how Leia remembers Padme. You know, fix continuity errors before adding new ones.

I'd watch a Brad Bird-directed, Drew Karpyshyn-written Episode VII.
But there are many, many other combinations where I simply wouldn't give a flip.

Adaptations of the New Jedi Order novel series would work well too since those are more about the next generation Solo and Skywalker kids. And hell with 19 novels in that series, Disney could milk it forever.

Besides Whedon, how many other big name directors out there are known for being able to handle science fiction? I know Ridley Scott is one, but he would never whore himself out to Disney.

As long as they get the directors of John Carter, Tron: Legacy, and Beverly Hills Chihuahua onboard, how can this possibly miss?
I kid. I think it's probably for the best that Lucas relinquished control of Star Wars. Not that I'm entirely optimistic about a new movie, but it couldn't possibly suck more than any of the prequels. That's not entirely true. But they set a new low for quality control. I have the worst winds right now.

Wasn't he involved with the Monopoly movie at one point? Ridley Scott is plenty capable of whoring.

Personally, I think the time to have Hamill, Fisher, and Ford involved has passed.

So if they plan on 2015 for the next film - can we assume they have already begun development? I would think 3 years is barely enough time for a regular movie, much less another Star Wars one.

Whedon and Brad Bird are both solid choices, and both obviously have a history of working well with Disney.

And even more telling … with Kathleen Kennedy running the show, will Spielberg finally direct one? The Force is strong with this one.

I was thinking that a sequel with the children of Solo/Leia would be good. And since they want to drive the franchise forever, you could even end a trilogy with the dark side winning.

Really, really surprised at all the negative reaction to this news. What alternative would you guys prefer? No more Star Wars ever? Which, aside from TV projects, seemed like what were going to get from Lucasfilm even after George stepped down. More Lucas-written and directed films? The bad taste of those three prequels and no chance of ever seeing the original trilogy restored?
Granted, Disney may do nothing but screw the pooch on these and we may never see that original trilogy restored...but things are much more hopeful now than they were yesterday for the Star Wars franchise as a whole. In fact, it's too bad "A NEW HOPE" has already been used, because that would be the PERFECT title for the next film!
