there must be a lot of scenes on the Falcon for them to bother to build a full size mock up.

The F-15 is still around, and that's been in service for almost 40 years (more than 40 if you count prototypes). And among civilian craft, the Cessna 172 will turn 60 next year, and that's one of the most popular small planes in the world.

I agree, but fanboys were complaining about minor tweaks to the shape and paint scheme of the X-Wing featured in that "Force for Change" video a couple months ago. I guess it's possible that the heroes would still be using older aircraft if the Empire really did regain power and the Alliance was never able to restore the Republic. People are also speculating this new location could be an abandoned rebel base (perhaps Dantooine) given the multiple ground shelters at the site.

And speaking of design for nostalgia's sake, Abrams just tweeted this photo. The light reflecting on the table is clearly reminiscent of the Death Star:

I think the SR-71 was retired long ago, but the point still stands. It was in service for decades, just like the other aircraft mentioned.

Besides, just because we see what looks to be an x-wing, doesn't mean that it isn't a new/updated model.

I really hope there isn't another Death Star. You'd think after two catastrophic issues with your prior two attempts you'd abandon the concept and go with something else.

This is going to be a Terrence Malick inspired Star Wars film. 30 minute shots of just the Falcon sitting in a hanger bay.

Remember there was that rumor of a flashback with Leia and Vader (I know, I know). Which could have been on the first Death Star.

I really hope there isn't any kind of flashback.

Star Wars (at least the "episodes") doesn't do flashbacks. A flashback would stand out and seem out of place.

Has MVS even filmed his stuff yet?

I only ask cuz... he's 85. You might want to film his stuff as soon as you can. Fuck, I love MVS.

Agreed. The OT has a very simple and consistent asthetic, a flashback here would really fuck with the flow. Lucas did this with the prequels, ala Episode 2 when the clones attack in the last third and there were at least two quick jerky zoom shots. That was the point I gave up on the prequels for good.

Ah, but the device that Abrams always uses (which I hate, besides lens flare), is to start a scene at it's most tense, penultimate moment, and then cut to a flashback right before the payoff to show how we got there. I hate that shit so much and I really hope he doesn't do it for SW.

I read a rumor that Disney wanted a full-scale Millennium Falcon built for the film so they could eventually incorporate it into one of their theme parks.

There was a period where almost every episode of Alias started out like this.

Yeah, like an action scene, the moment right before an explosion, for example. And I did say "moment" within a scene, not an entire scene.

Anyways, my point is that Abrams did that all the time - I think his Mission Impossible movie started like that, and pretty much every single episode of Alias started like that as well.

You bet your ass he'll do that. And there'll be a fuck ton of lens flare. And we'll all come of the theatre saying "Remember how little lens flare there was in Star Trek?"

Apparently his wife complained that she couldn't tell what the hell was going on in some of the scenes in ST, and that's when he dialed down the lens flare. Dialed. Down.

JJ holds Star Wars as sacred. I severely doubt he will do anything to make it stylistically different than the OT.

So you are saying we shouldn't worry if we don't like what he does because it will be changed in 30 years.

I just had a great idea ... Lightsaber flares!

I'm sure he thinks his wife is sacred; she's still getting fucked.
