A lot of people elsewhere on the Internet are COMPLETELY. LOSING. THEIR. SHIT. over this teaser. About how unbelievably awful it is, about how it desecrates the sanctified purity of Charles Schulz's creations, how it's a blatant cash grab on the behalf of Schulz's heirs, etc. etc. etc.
Never mind that Schulz whored the shit out of Peanuts throughout his lifetime. Or that, except for the Christmas and Halloween holiday specials, the vast majority of the Peanuts TV specials and movies are utterly god-awful swill...

Granted it's only a 60 second teaser, but the tone of it sure seems right to me. Is it just because it's computer animated?

I like the Peanuts gang so I'll see this. I'm glad they went with an animated style rather than trying to make a live action version with a CG Snoopy and Woodstock or something.

Yeah, I really think it doesn't look bad at all. I'm also relieved it's not some animation/live action crap.
Another thing I noticed is that it doesn't appear to have that really smooth fluidity of typical CG animation. Although it's obviously not hand-drawn, the motion has that hand-drawn feel. There's no motion blur.

They should adapt "A Charlie Brown Kwanzaa."
(Look for it on Youtube. I won't post a link to it here.)

Granted it's just a short teaser, but I think I think it looks very promising. And this is coming from a lifelong Peanuts fan who loves the comics, adores the classic shorts, and even finds enjoyment in the "lesser quality" ones.
Consider me cautiously optimistic.
EDIT: Since we're talking about Peanuts, I figured I'd share these custom-made wire frame Christmas decorations:
- I like the animation style they've gone for here; while it's not hand-drawn it is very reminiscent of the style of the original shorts
- Not sure if that's new voice-acting or re-used sound bites, but if it's new they've done a good job finding someone to voice Charlie Brown and Snoopy.
- Tonally I think they've struck the right chord as well, although again, it's just a teaser so that could change once we see the final trailer.
Consider me cautiously optimistic.

I agree with most of you - that teaser got the 'tone' of Peanuts just right. No need to over-complicate things just because they're doing a big movie version. So far, so good.

It is one of the best 2D-3D translations I've ever seen. Nothing looked out of place or unfaithful to Schulz's drawing style. I can't wait to see more.

I think the visual style and tone are spot-on, I don't get the complaints. It isn't some butcher job like say Smurfs or Alvin and the Chipmunks.

I really liked the teaser (hadn't even heard of this before this) and I think they nailed it in terms of the animation style. 2D look and feel in a 3D environment. Surprised anybody is complaining about this.
Now if the plot involves the Peanuts gang somehow falling through a portal into "our world", then yeah...there's something to complain about.

As for the teaser, it looks good. Can't wait to see more. But I'm not going to lie, when the rumors of this movie came around, I really wanted to see Laika do it. But we are getting a Here Be Monsters! movie from them.

I'm on board as a big Peanuts fan. I like the style of animation used. Where it feels more like a pop up book than anything. As long as the story isn't like Race for your Life, Charlie Brown.

The character designs in 3-D look the slightest bit off, particularly Snoopy. He's rounder and fatter than I would have ever imagined from the original cartoon art or television animation.
There is no way to determine the quality of writing from a teaser, so I won't even pretend to criticize this until I see the final product. I assume some of the rustic charm found in Peanuts will be stripped away for more amorphous modern values.

"When Linus refuses to bake a cake for Peppermint Patty and Marcie, the 'Peanuts™' gang must unite. Along the way, they learn about love, about tolerance, and even a little about themselves. Also, there's a dog that kills Germans."

I never understood the appeal of Peanuts. It's not funny but I guess it could be nostalgia for those of us that looked forward to the seasonal specials. Rental at best for me.

I suppose there is some nostalgia factor today, but I have been a Peanuts fan since I was old enough to read (at age 3). Not funny? That's just crazy talk!
