Hell in the Pacific. I know some people hate the ending but Mifune and Marvin give great performances. IMO it is Mifune's best non-japanese film.

Lee Marvin served with the Marines in the Pacific during the war and got wounded. Mifune served in the Japanese Air Force in an aerial photography unit.

Point Blank. He got Keanu to do his best work. I mean that line, "I am an FBI agent," oooh chills.

Yes...this is what I meant when I wrote that even his failures are endlessly fascinating.

Richard Macdonald's production design, William Fraker's cinematography, the Walter Goss sound design and the Ennio Morricone score are all brilliant. This film is an utter disaster, but the production values are through the roof fantastic.

For anyone interested this is a great read about the troubled production...
