CA indeed looks like it could be a box office failure, but it could still be a very good movie.

It could be. I just wasn't impressed by that 6 minute trailer or whatever. It just seemed like too much was going on. we'll see.

Re: Most anticipated fall/winter movie? (2012 Edition)

I think the presumed lack of cohesion will be a huge hurdle for Cloud Atlas. Critics are split down the center right now, some giving it high praise (Ebert compares it favorably to 2001), some damning it (one compared it to the entire Matrix Trilogy in a single movie, starting off strong and going down from there).

To sell it properly, they basically need to advertise each of the individual stories separately.

My most anticipated are:
Django Unchained
Argo
Cloud Atlas
Skyfall

While I know it'll be picking up awards left and right, I just can't get myself excited for The Master. Looper has potential but the trailer/ads have done nothing for me and I wasn't a fan of Rian Johnson's previous work, however the reviews have been phenomenal: http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/looper/

I did put Django Unchained also. But yeah, Cloud Atlas looks like it could go either way. That's what it makes it exciting to me though. It at least looks like something that will evoke some kind of strong reaction. Better than something generic.

Yep I missed that you have Django in there. I was still wiping the sleep out of my eyes. I really want to like Cloud Atlas because of the directors and Hanks and I hope the trailers are misleading it.

After reading some things about THE MASTER, I'm inclined to actually want to see it in 70mm. I may not like it (I didn't like the one Anderson film I've seen--MAGNOLIA), but I think the subject matter here is more interesting than in most films these days. I wonder how the Scientologists will react. It takes some guts to tackle a subject like this.

Well, the film was screened for Tom Cruise, and he was not pleased. But then, Cruise seems to be very sensitive about anything critical of Scientology.

Skyfall by a mile.

The Hobbit, Argo and Django Unchained are some distance behind.

Django, Hobbit and Skyfall. No particular order.

I can't wait to see Zero Dark Thirty. The project is such a mystery, but has tons of potential.
