Bronson Canyon in Griffith Park (downtown L.A.) has been used in hundreds of films and TV shows from old serials to "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers." But in each case, it represents something different (a mine in the old west, a landing spot for aliens, a cave in prehistoric times, etc.).
So I'm guessing what you really mean is something like the L.A. City Hall which was the Daily Planet in the old Superman series, and police headquarters in the old Dragnet series, among tons of other films and TV shows.
