Actors who looked just like the real person
(I'll let one of you other comic-geeks start up the non-fiction thread)
Name 'em off!
Ben Kingsley as Gandhi
Warren Oates as Dillinger
Kirk Douglas as Van Gogh
Vincent D'onofrio as Orson Welles
Charliz......Nah, at least Charlize is still doable

Re: Actors who looked just like the real person
I think that's pretty much what the OP is asking for: the best combinations of natural features plus prosthetics/makeup work to make an actor resemble the real-life person they're playing, as opposed to just capturing the "spirit" of the person and not really looking like them.
Anyway, the first examples that came to mind are Meryl Streep as Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady (especially the older version), and Marion Cotillard as Edith Piaf in La Vie en Rose. I looked for pictures, but that's too much work.

James Van Praagh ................................................Jennifer Love Hewitt
on an unrelated note but slightly humorous note, if you go to James Van Praagh's website right now

There's an event cancellation notice that says "Due to Unforeseen Circumstances"
Some group of psychics they turned out to be!

No because Helen Mirren can't stop looking hot to save her life.
It's a shame Burton had Maurice LaMarche dub over Vincent D'onofrio's lines. It took me out of the movie to suddenly hear the Brain (who is admittedly an imitation of Orson Welles) and I always wanted to hear Vincent D'onofrio's actual performance (which Tim Burton reportedly hated).
