Is that Luke Skywalker on the cover? I know the EU books were pretty bad, but sheesh!

That's not a good name for the movie. I understand this movie doesn't have a whole lot of the "There" portion of "There and Back", but it's very much in the vein of the book.

Exec: "But we can't spoil the ending by saying Bilbo will make it 'back again'".

Hopefully WB won't follow through with this. Or have they already? What's the impetuous for it? They've had the title locked down for at least two years

Re: The Hobbit: There and Back Again (2014)
Maybe they're expanding the story into four films.... Into the Fire will be the third film, and There and Back Again will be the fourth, and will include more bridging material to lead into LOTR....

Re: The Hobbit: Into the Fire (2014)
From PJ's Facebook account:
I wonder if "Into the Fire" was a calculated feint to warm us up for this change? I was OK with "There and Back Again", but "Battle..." does make more sense.
Inside Information...
Our journey to make The Hobbit Trilogy has been in some ways like Bilbo's own, with hidden paths revealing their secrets to us as we've gone along. “There and Back Again” felt like the right name for the second of a two film telling of the quest to reclaim Erebor, when Bilbo’s arrival there, and departure, were both contained within the second film. But with three movies, it suddenly felt misplaced—after all, Bilbo has already arrived “there” in the "Desolation of Smaug".
When we did the premiere trip late last year, I had a quiet conversation with the studio about the idea of revisiting the title. We decided to keep an open mind until a cut of the film was ready to look at. We reached that point last week, and after viewing the movie, we all agreed there is now one title that feels completely appropriate.
And so: "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies" it is.
As Professor Tolkien intended, “There and Back Again” encompasses Bilbo’s entire adventure, so don’t be surprised if you see it used on a future box-set of all three movies.
Before then however, we have a film to finish, and much to share with you. It’s been a nice quiet time for us—Jabez and I happily editing away in a dark cave in Wellington—but those halcyon days are quickly coming to an end. It will soon be time to step into the light. Expect to see and hear much about The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies in the coming months.
And there’s also The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug Extended Cut, which we’re in the process of finishing, with over 25 mins of new scenes, all scored with original music composed by Howard Shore.
It’ll be a fun year!

I'm cool with calling it "The Battle of the Five Armies" but I had gotten used to "There and Back Again".

If that's their reasoning, why not just title the third film "...And back again"?
Or better yet, only split it into two movies to begin with!

Seems like stupid reasoning to me. Just becasue Bilbo is already "there" in the third movie doesn't mean the title can't be used. "There and back again" still makes sense to me.

I would have been perfectly fine with this, no joke. I'd love to see even longer versions of the LOTR films, I cannot get enough of PJ's vision of Middle Earth.
Also, who can change the title of this thread?

Translation: The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies: this one has more battles and action in it! Something cool will happen! Pay more to see this one so the box office is on par with the first trilogy! At least it's a title out of Tolkien. Someone needs to change the thread title now though surprised there's not a teaser yet with the amount of footage already shot. Probably waiting for July or around there to attach it to some big summer movies to make sure everyone sees it.

Finally watched DoS last night. It was awful. AUJ at least was semi-faithful, the opening was enchanting and there was some sense of adventure and discovery. This was just tosh. What the fuck happened to Legolas? Why was he played as a dour robot with pancake kabuki makeup and fake-looking contact lenses?

I dont think its tosh, my comment that is. I'd accepted that Leggy was in this long ago. Fine, whatever. But he looked ridiculous. Some of that CGI, particularly towards the end of the barrel sequence, was just embarassing.
