My Favorite Year is a GREAT movie, and O'Toole's performance is simply amazing.

While the movie itself falls short of greatness (despite being another vehicle of Virginia Madsen's spectacular nude breasts), O'Toole's Dr. Harry Wolper in 1985's Creator will always be one of my favorite movie characters of all time.

I'd say he was even great in KING RALPH. It's a lightweight film, but he plays a great straight-man to John Goodman's boorish American.

But those all came after 1972! Aren't you people embarrassed just to mention them?

Any actor who has earned the opportunity to decide when they retire from the film business has my respect. Most actors get the boot long before they want to walk away.

Does anyone remember the last Oscars where he was nominated for best actor but lost, when the winner was announced they cut to him looking like his soul just wrenched itself from the body.

Respect his decision and his body of work that puts him near the top of my favorite actor list.
