Well, it's not Hans Zimmer's best work, but it really hit home with the New Age-y synth pop of the 90's, the theme from Green Card. Oh, do I love that one.

Well, "not-so-great" is relative here, as it's one of my all-time favorite movies - but the critics bashed it at the time (Ebert gave it two stars), so I present to you John Barry's FANTASTIC score for SOMEWHERE IN TIME:

I bought "V. I. Warshawski" for $5 on Blu-Ray just for Randy Edelman's opening and closing theme. Only memorable thing about that movie.

Just seeing the opening credits of "The Black Hole" with the vector graphics set to that theme music makes it seem like a good movie is starting (...but, unfortunately, the opening credits are the highlight of the entire film).
(Note: revived this thread because I heard the theme again for the first time in a while)

Goldsmith had a lot of great music in otherwise poor movies. One of my favorite scores of all time is from The Final Conflict (aka Omen III). That score is pure awesomeness from start to finish.

Re: Great Theme Music On Not-So-Great Movies
Barry did several great themes for not so great movies. The scores for the 1976 King Kong and the horrific early 80s Lone Ranger are both prime examples. In fact, the way the score for the latter's opening would convince someone what they are about to see isn't going to suck.

While this movie is far from mediocre IMO, I think it's a shame I can't find this awesome song anywhere nowadays.
