I've been looking forward to seeing this. I know lots of you guys were ho-hum about it. I'm optimistic that it's going to be great.

"BUT: this movie is god damn SPECTACULAR to look at. if you're going to fork out extra $ for 3D, do it for this."
That quote reminds me of Jupiter Ascending.
This is a home video watch for me. On 4K of course.

I am seeing it in theater with a buddy. 5th Element is both our fav movie and this has similar vibes. I will support Luc Besson in most anything he does.
I read an article that indicates this is basically zero risk for production company which is good: http://www.darkhorizons.com/valerian...as-it-appears/

Still going to try and see it on the largest screen possible. There is a fantastic theater that George Lucas used to always rent out that I like going to. I really hope they screen it, though I have a feeling they'll be showing Dunkirk.

I love The Fifth Element as much as the next guy, but this just doesn't look appealing to me and really no desire to see in theater...

Who runs that site, Forbes or the advertisers? I couldn't even read the article unless I disable my adblocker. Would've liked to read it but I have better things to do. IMHO, advertisers are ruining the internet.

Sites are usually connected with advertisers through an algorithm so that ads cater to individual visitors. Forbes probably screws with adblockers because if people don't see the ads on their site, they don't make any money.
I saw a preview for this before Spider-Man today. It was the first time the movie looked appealing to me. I doubt I'll see it in the theater, but I'll watch it on HBO.

I feel like i've seen the same preview for this all summer in front of various movies. For some reason it really started bugging me how it starts off with "Agent Valerian, you'll be running solo" and then it immediately shows him saying he works with Laureline. Never made sense to me
Anyway, I'd think the overall score will go down too with the "positives" not being overwhelmingly great either. Looks pretty, but the trailers have done nothing for me and I imagine this will be a bomb here in the US at least.

I was veeeery luke-warm on this movie; I think it's because the lead actor has resting bitch face... that said, it's starting to appeal to me the more I see the trailers on TV. I might see it in theaters but will most likely blind buy it on 4k in the fall.

I'm looking forward to the movie but I've always felt that the leads were chosen so that they wouldn't upstage the story or the visuals. In particular, I find DeHaan an unappealing heroic lead. Perhaps I'll come out of the film and he'll have won me over, but I'm seeing the film for Besson. I was kind of amused by the recent TV ads that feature three or four different positive quotes separated by "Beauty" shots, and they're almost all from the same one review (and an obscure source at that).

Watched a you tube review and they brought up the lack of appeal of the two leads. They threw out there a "what if" on the casting which posed the scenario of swapping leads with the Passengers duo of Pratt/Lawrence. I know that never would have happened, but I think it would have made this movie a little more appealing to the masses.
As for me, I'm still on the fence. After watching a behind the scenes video on you tube, that featured several snippets not shown in the trailers, DeHaan just isn't working for me. I'll likely catch it on Blu when it comes out, but If I have some spare time and can catch a matinee I might do that instead.

I felt the same way about the lead in Baby Driver.

I don't know if anyone follows What The Flick but I enjoy that sometimes they disagree. In this case, one loved it while the other was lukewarm. Too bad Kristy wasn't on this episode, would've liked her insight.

Re: Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (2017, D: Besson) S: DeHaan, Deleving
Have greatly enjoyed the source material for several decades now, and was greatly looking forward to this film, up until just a few days ago.
I never thought the leads were not ideally cast, but was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt since they were the choice of Besson, who is coming at this as a life long fan of the material too.
But it seems like a consensus of reviews are pointing out the lack of chemistry and lack of an interesting dynamic at the script level with these two. For me, that element was essential. All the visual razzle dazzle was background to the charm of the two characters and and interesting sic-fi plot.
The film, according to even the positive reviews, tips that on it's head.
Fortunately I just got in a new reprint of the original comics so I'm just gonna be content to enjoy Valerian the old fashioned way for the time being.
