I think once the Marvel logo flashes then people will perk up a little and see what the trailer is.

If they can set up the kind of atmostphere that it seems they're going for, it can at least resonate the next time they hear or see something about it.

Someone mentioned a real Star Wars feel to the teaser and I agree to some extent. This will definitely draw the kiddos in.

And just wait til they see the freaking TALKING RACCOON WITH A BIG GUN.

I would say 95% is way underestimated. I would venture the whole mainstream audience does not know who these guys are.

To me, this will be the first big test of Marvel. This movie will stand or fall on its own merits. There is no name brand recognition. There is not a large built-in audience. I don't think audiences will stay away for those reasons though. You will still get the same general audience you get for sci-fi/fantasy movies. The success or failure of GOTG will rest solely on "is it a good movie?"

Edited to add: Does anybody think Batista's current flop in the WWE will impact the film? (I don't think there are any built-in Batista fans; but it is an interesting question.) (I was typing this as Antspawn posted ... great minds think alike but we have differing opinions.)

Batista aint gonna make a bit off difference and I promise you by the time this movie premiers, Disney and Marvel will make sure you know who the Gaurdians are. No doubt they will be plastered on all of the Disney owned channels and merchandising.

Exactly. Batista is cool and all - a big grunt - but those that were fans of his WWE stuff are in the same boat as the geeks. It's a small %. I do agree that Disney/Marvel will push merchandising - they fucking have to and some of the shit I've seen from GOTG in terms of toys and whatnot are fucking cool as hell.

What's worse is he's been more or less handed the main event in the upcoming Wrestlemania. Crowd reaction to him is negative and the only way to get him over is as a heel. If he's on TV calling people morons before the movie is released, they need to make sure it stands on its own.

I'm intrigued... I still feel like this could go either way. It could hit or flop. Some of the comedy in trailer worked for me, some of it felt really forced.

Tonally, that was... odd. I'm with Antipodean - could be great, could fall flat. But I think with Gunn at the helm it'll be a solid film. Now, the question is will audiences buy into what they're selling here?
