I was at the very first showing last night (7:30) and there were about 25 people in the audience. The line for the 10:25 was a little more.

Saw it last night at 7pm with my son and wife.

The actors and writers made the movie refreshing and funny.

3D IMax at Regal had 100 or more, and everyone had a great time watching the movie. Everyone gave it a great review last night.
-My wife laughed a ton and was very happy she saw the movie. She was not sure about it the first time she saw the trailer, but the more she saw...the more she wanted to go see it.

Give it a 4.5 out 5 stars for "Summer" Entertainment value

It's a gleefully enjoyable Marvel movie, with content you'd expect to see in a Pixar movie. That's the best way I can describe it.

Good question!
My initial, immediate, reaction after seeing it was that I enjoyed it...probably a little more than I enjoyed Serenity (which was quite a bit). But both films benefitted from their contextual relationships. Take away the TV show and all the character and universe embellishment- or the relationship to the larger Marvel Universe here, and they would still be entertaining.
But knowing that Cap, Thor and others exist and can romp at some point in this same universe, kicks the appeal of this up quite a bit for me.

Loved all the characters here, but couldn't help but think "wouldn't it be cool if the cavalry that comes to rescue them in the nick of time was the Avengers, not some entity we've just gotten to know".

You mean in the film? Just in that moment of peril? No. That'd be stupid in the narrative. There'd be no sense of logic for the Avengers to just appear.

It's be neat to have one meet the other but such a moment would totally kill the quality of the film.

I have never read comic books. I've seen all the X-men and Wolverines, Thor 1+2, Ironman 1-3, The Avengers, etc. mostly because they are big budget films everyone is seeing. I enjoyed the heck out of this movie. I had never heard of GOTG before.

So it being a Marvel property has nothing to do with it. It being a good movie firing on all cylinders has everything to do with it.

In about two hours I bonded with human emotions with a twig.

You're a rare one, had this had no Marvel affiliation it would not have sold nearly as well. Would it have bombed outright? Maybe, maybe not, but it definitely wouldn't have been a record breaker.

No, of course I didn't mean this film.
I was talking about another film down the line...when it's been established that all the characters are in a cosmic setting at that point. The Guardians already are so you just need to contrive a way to get the earth bound characters out there.

Actually what is more likely to go down is, it would be an Avengers film, with the 'unexpected'
cavalry in a situation turning out to be the GotG.
Even though it will have been spoiled well in advance that all the characters are in the same film, a little narrative misdirection in the first act can still yield a surprise or two later on in the story.

Better yet, don't even make it one of the exisiting franchise films. Give it just a narrative centric title (like but not necessarily "Infinity" whatever ) to play with expectations about who will show up during the course of it.

I think there's a very strong chance that the Guardians (or at least some of them) will appear in some fashion in Avengers 3.
