Movies you REALLY want to see in the theater
I'm not talking about current releases, but movies that were released when you were either too young to attend , or before you even lived. Movies you love but haven't seen theatrically and really want to see on the big screen.
My list: 2001 Blade Runner Alien and Aliens Any of David Lean's movies from the 50s or 60s Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom-the only one I have not seen in theaters, caught Raiders at a restoration screening. Clockwork Orange

Re: Movies you REALLY want to see in the theater
speaking of David Lean, I'm hoping 'Ryans Daughter' is shown at the rumoured AFI Silver 70mm Film Festival
I've never seen 'Jaws' on the big screen the first time I saw 'Alien' was on VHS and a little 13 inch TV - it was not ideal way to see/experience it. The second time, 70mm on the Uptown screen - was unreal, scary, intense. the thing I remember about the theatrical screening of 'Aliens' was the when the facehugger scampers towards Ripley and leaps onto her face - the entire audience was wincing... pause... scream! I really like 'Speed Racer' - I resent not seeing this in IMAX now if I could time travel - I'd love to experience the hype and see 'The Exorcist' with a sold out audience in 1973 (for the record I was four in '73) Last edited by Giles; 06-07-12 at 06:49 PM. |

Re: Movies you REALLY want to see in the theater
I saw Blue Velvet at a midnight showing in London!
The bus ride home was a little freaky, though.

Re: Movies you REALLY want to see in the theater
I've seen a fair number of older favorites on the big screen during my college years, and at various showings over the years around the Boston area. One biggie for me that I haven't seen in a theater, though, would be the original King Kong. Maybe The Searchers, Forbidden Planet and some Hammer films, as well.

Re: Movies you REALLY want to see in the theater
That one would be on my list as well. For kids that grew up in the 50s, I bet that one was almost the equivalent experience as seeing Star Wars was for those of us who were kids in the 70s.

Terminator 2
Back when it was released all my neighborhood buddies grouped up to see it, I declined the invitation. I regret not going. |

Yes, Alien & Aliens on big screen was awesome. Walking home through the West Covina suburbs was rather unnerving!

Re: Movies you REALLY want to see in the theater
Saw 2001 and Citizen Kane. Saw Wild at Heart and Lost Highway. Saw Evil Dead II. And a handful of others. Madstone Theaters used to show old movies before they closed (after only being open for a couple years). A place opened in Mesa AZ last year and closed already.
With all the distractions in my day to day, I tend to stay more focused when I'm watching a movie in the theater. Because of this, home theater will never wn. I'd want to see the big movies. Die Hards, Terminators, Superman, Indiana Jones, Back to the Future. Maybe Dune.

Re: Movies you REALLY want to see in the theater
I'm so glad that I got to see Lawrence of Arabia and 2001 at the Uptown in DC, both were experiences I will never forget.
I would have to say This is Spinal Tap is my number 1, it's my favorite movie and I would love to see it on the big screen with the sound turned to 11. I'd also love to see the Steve McQueen classic Le Mans, the racing footage is mesmerizing.

Re: Movies you REALLY want to see in the theater
I saw Lawrence of Arabia years ago when it was restored, and my parents took us to special showings like Seven Samurai and Singin' in the Rain. I'd love to see some other big musicals, though, like Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.

Re: Movies you REALLY want to see in the theater
Saw DotD theatrically around 1982, double-featured with the original Mother's Day. Freaked me OUT!
![]() Anyway, I'd like to see a big epic in a theater, like Ben Hur or Gone With the Wind, neither of which I've yet seen at all. Or my favorite all time movie, West Side Story.
