Watched this again today and it's pretty cool how much foreshadowing there is that carries over into Covenant.
My favorite parts are, of course, David interacting with everyone -- especially with Holloway. Holloway was a fucking asshole to David and got fucked in return.

Agree! After seeing Covenant in the theater, we watched Prometheus with a whole different perspective. Sure the initial review of these two riveting films is Stupid Human Decisions Part One & Stupid Human Decisions Part Two BUT those criticisms aside, the Story of David unfolds and the discussion of what does one say or do about one's creator are the core of this Alien arc.

Watched this again over the weekend. Not sure how long it had been since I saw it previously but I remembered then ending completely different for some reason.
Form some reason and the running in a straight line part didn't seem nearly as bothersome as before.
Even after watching it again I can't answer Why So Blue's question
Still think it is very good. They way people act in this I can just see them as giddy or nervous about where they are.
Spoiler:
Even after watching it again I can't answer Why So Blue's question
So that mural in Prometheus wasn't an actual Xenomorph -- it was a "deacon."

What question? That it's a Deacon on the mural? I just look at the fingers for confirmation. Look how freakin' long they are on the figure and look how far they extend in the mural. That's the giveaway.

I watched the Agent 9 fan edit of Prometheus tonight. After seeing the Man of Steel edit, I wasn't expecting much. However, this one was far more successful. This cut didn't just remove scenes, they added or replaced certain segments with deleted scenes that should never have been cut. They got rid of the pointless directed panspermia stuff and virtually all the character backstory, and in doing so made the film feel much more like Alien, where the character relationships were more implied than discussed outright. This improved the pacing tremendously and even though you'd think removing character development was the last thing you'd want from a film, it actually made it better because it streamlined the drama. Motivations became more clear, the characters became far more active than the waffling, whining pontificactors of the theatrical cut. Everyone moved with far more purpose. Hell, even Holloway benefits from this. In the TC all I could keep thinking is why is this guy such a prick? But in this cut, it never crossed my mind. It's hard to realize how much the fat on the film weighed it down until you see a cut with most of it removed. Agent 9 also added in music cues from the Alien score, which gave the film more tension and helped tie it in to the that movie without being too on the nose about it.
The editor couldn't remove all the stupid, like the idiot biologist who went from "Hey, what killed all those engineers? Better run away from the life sign!" to "Ooooh pretty cobra, let me touch it!" in a matter of minutes, but overall by cutting out the seemingly endless stupidity, it made what remained far more acceptable, and some of it was even forgiveable within the context of the scene. Agent 9 even recut the sequence of events in certain scenes to make the decisions smarter. Removing a lot of the unnecessary, incidental dialogue by the expendable supporting cast made them feel more professional as well.
Agent 9 also replaces the opening with the Peter Weyland TED Talk, which elucidates the film's themes succinctly and helps give everything that comes after more focus. The film becomes far more cohesive just by making that change.
I deleted the Agent 9 cut of MOS as soon as I finished it. With Prometheus, I'm keeping it and will even watch it again. It's easily the best fan edit I've ever seen.

So I was going to go back through the pages in this thread to look and see if anyone caught the explanations for this movie (you tube videos showing deleted script segments) but I'm just going to comment regardless.
SPOILERS
I now love Prometheus - I have no idea why they didn't just stick to the original script (well, in some ways they did of course) - the whole Christianity aspect is very intriguing.
For those that don't know:
The opening scene where "The Last Engineer" drinks the substance and dies....that action was to re-inhabit that planet with a new Sub-species of themselves as they lost the ability to reproduce - the substance he drank was their Lords blood/substance. Earth is the only planet they got it right with but then they wanted to destroy us because of how brutal we became. They backed off when they saw us find Christianity (from the chosen one among us they brought to EDEN to show the proper ways) but that was only temporary.
The temple they entered in Prometheus was sacred and the reason for the alien statue on the ceiling was because they found a way to reproduce with that black goo stuff but of course that all went wrong.
The Engineers populated many planets with their newly created species of human, in Alien Covenant, David is arriving with Shaw (you don't see her on the ship of course) after escaping the planet in Prometheus on a new inhabited planet of another group of engineer spin-offs (notice how much smaller they are than the regular engineers) and of course, since David doesn't like any living lifeforms HE DIDN'T create, he wipes them all out with the black goo.
I think I also saw something mentioned about the last engineer in that device he's sitting in making an appearance in the original Alien but I'm not sure.

I really enjoyed Prometheus, haven't seen Covenant or any other Aliens films so don't know if the Mythology is handled right or not
Where is this "Agent 9" cut that makes Prometheus even better

To everyone who said that "real" scientists would never be so nonchalant and careless as the way the scientists in this movie handled discovering "new" life forms...

That's a lot different than encountering totally alien lifeforms for the first time, especially with a character going so quickly from "run from the life signs!" to "tickle the cobra."

Is that sea cucumber showing really obvious signs of aggression the way the space cobra was?

holy shit. i just saw this again and it was like i was watching for the first time. i was on the edge of my seat. literally heart pounding all the way through. i don't know what i said the first time around but i know i gave it 4 stars. now, 4.5. this was a brilliant prequel to Alien. just brilliant. Scott was at the top of his game with this. i was in total awe. i totally forgot most of this after 8 years and i was stunned, blown away. it was just an amazing experience this time around. i'm sure Alien: Covenant doesn't come close and i would have like to see the further adventures of Shaw, but this was simply amazing and if paired with Alien, the perfect beginning. i loved it so much.
.5 (how the hell do you do images now???
