Because when I think of Summer, I think of these films.
Alamo Drafthouse has a better shtick going with their "Summer of '82" series that's going on.

I already own all of these but The Exorcist, but I may be willing to pay to see a few of them on the big screen - especially if I can get a few of my friends to come with me.

Wow. Shocked that my city is actually participating in this. I can see myself trying to make it to a couple of those.
Not every place has an Alamo Drafthouse or any theater that shows older movies for that matter. This is the only chance for many people to see titles like this on a big screen.

It's Classic movies being shown in the Summer, not Classic Summer movies.
Amazon Local/Fandango is doing a $12 voucher for only $6 right now. I think there is about a day left in the deal.
I was able to get tickets to both The Exorcist and North By Northwest screenings for $12 total.

I'd like to see a road show of classic Summer films play across the country. I'll bet the right titles would do great business.

According to the press release, yes.
Theaters showing older films in the Bay Area has gone up and down over the last couple years. We have an amazing amount of theaters catering to all tastes, but lately the screenings of older films has sort of gone down.
Years ago I remember Landmark Theaters ran something called 'Landmark After Dark'. A couple of theaters in the Bay Area participated in this and they screened everything from Escape From New York and old Bond films to Cannibal Holocaust (new 35mm print) and Suspiria. Not really sure what happened to but it's been long gone.
There are still places like the Castro Theatre that do Double Features and run a lot of older films, but places like that are far and few between now outside of specialized Film Festivals in the Bay Area. Santa Cruz has it a little better since one of their theaters (The Del Mar) does special Midnight showing for Cult Classics and so on.

Too bad the local theater is in an area known as The Plaza; Very trendy and crowded so parking is a pain.

When i saw the Godfather in XD a few months ago at the cinemark in Arundel Mills, i was SHOCKED at how full the theater was. Id say it was 95% full with a theater room that can hold near 400 people

Re: Cinemark Theaters Summer Classic Series (2012)
By the way, Movie Tavern is a terrible concept if you're seeing a film for the first time. The waitress didn't even show up to take our orders until a half hour into the movie. I thought the meal would be served before the lights went down, so this was terribly distracting. She brought the food out right as Robbie was being swallowed by the giant tree.
We were basically eating in the dark because the table lighting was not working. Add in some dirty floors, stale sandwiches and having to fumble for loose change in the dark -- it's not an experience I would recommend.

Just got back from the North By Northwest screening.
First off it was heart-warming to see so many people (of all ages) show up to the screening at my local theater. There was so much chatter while people were walking out and so many smiles!
The digital print was beautiful! I haven't seen the transfer on the Blu-Ray, but there were some spots that looked uneven. Either way it was beautiful!

Re: Cinemark Theaters Summer Classic Series (2012)
Saw Bridge on the River Kwai a few weeks ago, and was a little annoyed by how dark the print/projection was. Still, I'll probably at least go back to see The Great Escape and The Sting since it's been a long time since I watched either and because I overall enjoyed the experience of seeing them in a theater (though I was the youngest person in the audience by a considerable margin.) I'm also going to see the Frankenstein/Bride of Frankenstein double feature they're having in a few weeks.
