It was a simpler time: Space Jam's official site from 1996

I thought this was good for a chuckle. Warner Bros. has left Space Jam's official site untouched since 1996:

Dig those frames! Actually, I kind of prefer this simpler design to some of the overly flashed ones of today.

The Vegas Vacation one from 1997 is even more primitive. This was up until a couple of a years ago.

I think the first movie website to get a lot of traffic was Showgirls. I remember it being the first I visited when I got internet in my dorm in college, which was also the first time I had internet!

I remember going to the one for The Phantom as a kid, passing the Phantom's initiation test, and entering "The Phantom" as my name. He had to take his own test on his own site? Man that seemed hilarious as a kid.

A few years later when Pizza Hut would give out free mix CDs, I would name them something like "Papa John's is the best!", "Dominoes is better" which would end up getting printed on the label.

I don't remember them doing that. The only promotion I recall is when they had an MGM DVD promotion between Bill & Ted, Mr. Mom and 2 others you could get with a pizza. They came in a cardboard sleeve.

This was close to when DVD was still in its infancy.

Yeah I got the Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey one, I remember getting mine in 2003, paper cases. I inserted it into the first Bill & Ted DVD. Honeymoon in Vegas was also one of them.

The Pizza Hut mixes were around '98 or so. You can choose around 3 songs, couldn't repeat artists, and then you name it and they mail it to you. I'll try to get a pic if I can find them.

Haha. Oh, man, I totally remember those Pizza Hut mix CDs. IIRC, the selection was crap, but I was thrilled at the idea of getting free CDs mailed to me (I was 16).

My fav was the original Blair Witch Project website. Spooky as hell. I also guessed right and made a mint on HSX with the film. Who knew.

Both the Star Trek Generations and First Contact websites were very advanced for their time.

Actually, according to this, Generations was the first official movie website ever.

Ah, the days when you always had to say "Double-you, double-you, double-you, dot" outloud.

My first movie-related memory was when I first got broadish band and downloaded the trailer for The Rock on Quicktime. It was like... 320 pixels by 240 pixels! And it only took ten minutes to download.

How I know I was on the internet really early:

A Yahoo search for "face-sitting" returned 1 result.

In 1996 I was eleven and remember kids talking about how awesome that movie was being from Chicago. I think I had some collectible space jam cups or something.

That would actually be a cool retro site today.
