I'll echo Star Trek: TMP and Titanic and add Bram Stoker's Dracula and Spielberg's War Of The Worlds. All these films have their faults but the good stuff is so good it doesn't really matter.

Star Trek: Insurrection

The biggest complaint that movie got was that it was like a 2-part episode of the series. And you know what? As a massive fan of TNG, I'm totally good with that.

Mine's probably The Sum of All Fears. I like Harrison Ford as much as anyone, but I thought Affleck and Schreiber were a great team, they nuked the Super Bowl...I dunno, it just worked for me.

The Peacemaker is another one I only seem to enjoy. But when Clooney just walks up to the bad guys in their wrecked car after the car chase and shoots them without a word...more movies could take a page from that scene.

I can agree with this. The movie just didn't really feel like a movie and seemed more like a script they had left over. Which is fine but for a movie I think it needed to have a little something more. Still not terrible just not that great.

Green Lantern is the most recent example I can think of... some others:

Troy
Alexander
Predator 2
License to Kill
On Her Majesty's Secret Service
Quantum of Solace
Pirates of the Caribbean 2

Pretty much the antithesis of that opposite thread since it was all-too clear that people hate anything considered 'popular' in that thread. A point brought up but not surprisingly ignored.
I believe that was the idea of the other thread: to name movies you hate that everyone else loves, as in a popular title. (And, I love Titanic and Independence Day but I think a lot of other people do too.)

I agree with the person on Star Trek 5. I think it was a great concept and enjoyed the film. No doubt the studio interference in demanding humor in a script that should have been dark and the screwing over of the budget didn't help things.

Daredevil. Everyone hated it but I loved it, especially the longer cut.

Certainly not in the same class as the amazing original but I still liked The Day the Earth Stood Still.

Lost in Space. I wish they didn't try to simplify the second half with editing (I would love to see a director's cut) and that Billy Mumy would have played the older Wil Robinson but I loved the flick and wished it had taken off as a franchise.

John Carter. I was stunned that I enjoyed every single minute because I absolutely hate the trailer.

I saw Across the Universe listed above. People hate this film? I thought it was a great, visual journey.

Something similar to that is The X-Files: I want to Believe. As far as a big budget Sci-fi movie goes it was a disappointment but I just enjoyed it because I felt like I got another 2 episodes from a fantastic TV series. That was good enough for me!

Peacemaker goes down as one of my Top 5 action movies ever. It starts out a little slow but once it starts rolling it doesn't stop!

Pretty much any Wes Anderson movie except for Fantastic Mr. Fox. Their response is always, "I don't get it."

Re: Movies you like that everyone around you hates

Masters of the Universe
I've heard from many fans of the cartoon that they thought it was awful, but when I saw it as a kid I thought it was amazing. I saw it recently and it's still pretty damn good. Langella's Skeletor is great to watch.

Game of Death
I was shocked at how awful the fake-Bruce scenes were, but it has a great story, much better than the original Game of Death. Although I'm very glad they released the original.

Temple of Doom
Not hated but regarded as the weakest in the trilogy, but my 2nd favrorite.

Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge
They totally did away with the premise in the first one, and had Freddy trying to come into our world. But Freddy is actually intimidating and not reduced to corny one-liners like in 4-6.

Jaws The Revenge

'89 Punisher
Best Punisher film IMO.

The Exorcist III
Dragged for a bit but it was pretty scary in parts.

X-Men 3
I was disappointed that Singer left the franchise, that certain people were gone rather quickly, but that opening was great, and was a pretty good film, just not as good as the previous two.

I thought "You Don't Mess With the Zohan" was Sandler's best wacky movie.

Pootie Tang gets a pass, now that Louie CK is so fucking awesome. I don't think many people know that he directed it.

Re: Movies you like that everyone around you hates

I have a bizarre fascination with The Happening. Every time I watch it, I want it to be a good movie. I'm always disappointed... and yet, I've watched it several times, and I'm sure I'll watch it again sometime.

I'm not sure how well regarded The Devil Wears Prada is among hetero males, but I love it... as long as Streep, Blunt, or Tucci are on screen. (Any scene with just Hathaway and her boyfrend/friends and the movie grinds to a halt.)

I feel like Spider-Man 3 and X-Men 3 were unfairly maligned. I liked them both.

I think 28 Weeks Later is way better than 28 Days Later. I also enjoyed Quarantine more than [REC].

Re: Movies you like that everyone around you hates

The Cable Guy: I think was when Jim Carrey was at his best and most edgy, but he got so much crap and bad reviews for this movie, he went all soft with Liar Liar for his next movie and was never the same. Most of my friends didn't like this movie, but I thought it was a very funny movie.

Kingpin: Although Dumb and Dumber and Theres Something About Mary are the holy grail for The Farrelly Bros, I really liked Kingpin. I think why many people hate this movie is because the characters are so unlikeable, but I think its hysterical.

Attack of Clones: Don't ask me why I enjoy this movie cause I hate The Phantom Menace with a passion, and think Revenge of the Shit is horrible and overrated, but for some reason I enjoyed Clones. Maybe cause Obiwan is a big part of this movie, and I liked Count Dooku too, but overall this is the one Prequel I liked. Go figure!

I like Kingpin quite a bit.

I actually kind of liked The Happening. Just about everything I heard was negative but I found it pretty enjoyable.

Others that I'll second in this thread:

Clue: Seriously? Who hates Clue? Fuck them and stop being friends with them.

John Carter: One of 2012's best films.

Terminator 3: It's a non-stop action film. While it doesn't progress the characters and story from the first two films, the film is a complete blast.

Titanic: I just recently re-watched this in IMAX 3D. While the film takes forever to get started (the opening sequences with Bill Paxton and Gloria Stewart), the film proves why Cameron is a master at what he does.

To add some of my own to the mix:

The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day
Doomsday
Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare
Land of the Lost
Ninja Assassin
Observe and Report
The Rage: Carrie 2
Speed Racer
Sweeney Todd
Step Up 3D
Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story

Love this one. IMO it's almost as good as the original. It is not really a horror film, it is more of a detective procedural with supernatural elements.
