Re: Amour (Haneke, 2012)

I am really hoping to find time to watch it this week, though, as depressing as Haneke's films are.

It's the art house equivalent of that Family guy joke where Peter falls down and hurts his knee and says "Oww!" for an hour. I went into this movie 33 years old with my wife and came out of it also having to smother my wife with a pillow because she got old and brittle. Now, here I am, having spent an eternity watching Amour and all I can do is complain about it on DVDTalk. They should have called this "Michael Haneke eats his own asshole for a week"
Excepting maybe The Seventh Continent, I've never thought of Haneke as particularly slow. My advice is to never watch anything by Tarr, Angelopolous, Akerman, Tsai, Sokurov, Costas, etc.

I'm not averse to slow but this left a bad taste in my mouth. I've also seen Cache which I also didn't particularly like. It just seems like I'm anti Haneke. And truth be told, I haven't seen movies from any of the above but I would be willing to. I'd be lying if I said I'm rushing out to see their movies though if they're comparable to Haneke.

I would watch that. He'd most likely make it interesting.

Haven't seen Amour yet, but (except for his FG remake), I've loved all his movies, with Cache being one of my all-time favorites. I've lost count of how many times I've seen it, and I always find something new in it.
