Any Jules Dassin fans here?
I've been a fan of his films for some time now and its just now I've learned he ws actually blacklisted in the late 40's. Its ironic because it was during that time that he started making his most well received and critically acclaimed films. From 47 to 55 he made Brute Force, Naked City, Thieves Highway, Night and the City and Rififi. 5 masterpieces if you ask me. Has anyone else seen any of his earlier or later work and could recommend something? I've seen those 5, and I own but have yet to watch "The Law". What else is worth checking out?

I'm a fan. Dassin was a real iconoclast whose work was consistently intelligent and interesting. If you have Netflix, a lot of his movies are available for streaming.
I would very much recommend Never on Sunday, which made a star of his wife Melina Mercuri; He Who Must Die, a strong drama about the staging of a passion play; and Topkapi, a colorful heist film, which is a total blast.
