Older Epic Ensemble Comedies
This post is edited from the future to further clarify.
Looking for recommendations along the following lines: Comedy. Pre-1990. Cast that includes multiple name actors. Plot that is somewhat epic in scope (not just sitting around talking). Manic energy?
Examples included and taken from other posts in this thread:
Those Magnificent Men and Their Flying Machines
It's A Mad Mad Mad Mad World
Hallelujah Trail
Cannonball Run (totally forgot about this one (thank you islandclaws))
Cannonball Run II
Speed Zone: Cannonball Run III
Scavenger Hunt (purchased b/c of Numanoid (thank you))
A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (sitting in my 'to watch' pile (thank you clckworang))
Those Daring Young Men in Their Jaunty Jalopies (purchased because of this thread (thank you Quartermass)
The Great Race (purchased because of this thread (thank you Dom56)
Who's Minding The Mint? (purchased because of this thread (thank you Ash)
Around The World In 80 Days (on my 'to buy' list (thank you Ash)
It's In the Bag (on my 'to buy' list (thank you Ash)
Million Dollar Mystery

WHO'S MINDING THE MINT (1967) is on a smaller scale, but does qualify since it did have a good cast, including at least one actor from IT'S A MAD, MAD, MAD, MAD WORLD--Milton Berle--and was clearly inspired by it.
If OCEAN'S 11 (1960) had been funny, it would have qualified.
AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS (1956) has an all-star cast, an epic plot and enough laughs to maybe qualify. It also won Best Picture that year.
One of the early comedies to experiment with this model is IT'S IN THE BAG (1945) starring Fred Allen, Jack Benny, Robert Benchley, William Bendix, John Carradine, Jerry Colonna and a bunch of others. It's based on the same source material as Mel Brooks' THE TWELVE CHAIRS (1970).

Re: Older Epic Ensable Comedies
Donald Sutherland's impersonation of the general in DIRTY DOZEN is priceless!
And THE WILD BUNCH is full of laugh lines:
"How'd you like to kiss my sister's black cat's ass?"
"She sure ain't your sweetheart no more, boy. Look at her lickin' all inside that Heneral's ear."
"Put eet on a tripod!"
