Michael is by far the best actor to play Rusty.
Maybe they could get George Lucas to CGI his face.

Yeah, by that point the National Lampoon name was being attached to so much awful direct-to-video and made-for-tv crap that *any* theatrical film would be a step in the right direction.

According to Wikipedia:
during most of the 1980s and the 90s, the name "National Lampoon" could simply be licensed on a one-time basis, by any company, for a fee.

Either Sudeikis or Helms would be great, but they'll probably go with Will Ferrell. Ugh.

All of the Vacation sequels were terrible (YES, including Christmas) but at least Vegas had a SMOKIN' Audrey.

Forget a reboot, do a sequel focusing on Eugene Levy's car salesman, after he sold Clark the Family Truckster and embarked on a maritime career of mapping navigable waterways around the world. Make it in black-and-white, with lots of first person narration, and directed by Jim Jarmusch.

I actually love Vegas. Far better then Euro which I can barely watch when it's on TV. Think it has the best kids outside of the original.

Another Vegas fan here. Great kids, some genuine laughs, and waaay better than European.

You can say it, you would be wrong for saying it, but you can say it none the less.

All of the proper theatrical "Vacation" movies are good, though each flawed in different ways.

If you want something that truly sucks and deserves complete hatred from everyone, try the Made-For-TV mess titled "Christmas Vacation 2: Cousin Eddie's Island Adventure"

(I made it through as much as I could, but what a fucking nightmare!)

I think that Ryan Reynolds would be awesome as an older Rusty.

This is the proper order...

Vacation>Christmas Vacation>Vegas Vacation>European Vacation

European Vacation is a mess. And not funny. It also doesn't have Cousin Eddie. Epic failure.

... wait... is Randy Quaid still insane?

Reminder on why Vacation is the best in the series:

That's my ranking too. Vacation is a classic. Christmas Vacation is infinitely quotable, and something my family watches every holiday season. Vegas Vacation has some funny moments like the really bad casino, Rusty winning all the cars, Wayne Newton. I haven't seen European Vacation in ages, but I don't remember being that impressed the last time I watched it. And it has THE most annoying Rusty/Audrey out of all 4.

I agree.

Christmas Vacation is an annual staple "must watch" around the holidays (love that intro song!), but the original is such a classic and has the rated R appeal.

Vacation >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> European Vacation > Christmas Vacation > Vegas Vacation

I'll never understand why Christmas Vacation is so adored. I remember seeing it in theaters, leaving the theater, and wanting to kick a fucking pigeon. Of course, I'm not a Cousin Eddie fan either. He was used perfectly in the first one because a little went a long way. By the time he became a staple player, it was a one-note joke taken to annoyingly unfunny lengths. Like your average SNL skit.

Christmas Vacation is near the top. An annual watch for me.

Watching that clip makes me think of how great it would be if it was Joel McHale and Amy Poehler as the new Griswolds.

I always felt bad growing up ragging on the annoying fat Audrey from European Vacation, only to find out she was dead. Doesn't change the fact that she was fat or annoying, but still made me feel bad since she died of cancer. Didn't know until then that she was also the voice of Max in Goof Troop.

Why? If Chevy is playing Grandpa Griswold, Anthony Michael Hall is exactly the right age. He's 43. Chase was 39 when he shot the first VACATION.

Haven't seen any of them in over a decade but if I was going to watch one, it would be Christmas Vacation.

Christmas Vacation has grown on me...when I saw it in the theater, I actually didn't care for it (probably because it was TOO different from the prior films), but now it's my favorite of the lot. European Vacation gets a bad rap...it's pretty good. Vegas Vacation is awful.

re: Vacation (REBOOT/SEQUEL) - D: Daley/Goldstein, S: Helms, Applegate

From comingsoon.net;

Ed Helms ("The Hangover" films, "The Office") is in negotiations to star as Rusty Griswold in New Line's Vacation. Rusty is the son of Clark Griswold, played by Chevy Chase in the "National Lampoon's Vacation" films.

Variety says that Horrible Bosses writers John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein will direct from the script they penned.

"The new version of the vacation adventures of the quirky dad and his family will follow Rusty, who now has his own family misadventures on the road," adds the trade.

David Dobkin will produce through his David Dobkin Productions banner. A spring start is expected after Helms finishes The Hangover Part III and "The Office."
