Rooney Mara first caught my eye as Emmy Rossum's friend in Dare. She struck me as someone to watch in the future, though I was surprised when I learned she would be in the Elm Street remake a short while later. That disappointing choice aside, I'm glad to see her excelling now, and I will continue to watch anything she does.
Also, nice to see The Artist win BP. While not my favorite of the year, it is a great film and certainly the best of the nominees. And Uggie rules!

I agree Seth Rogen was good at the SPIRIT awards...visibly nervous, but good.

I thought his joke about the Grammys being the only awards show where you can beat the shit out of a winner and be asked to perform twice was better.

She was also pretty good in Tanner Hall despite the fact that the movie sucked.
While we're on the subject, how the fuck was Shailene Woodley not nominated? She was easily the best thing in The Descendants.

Woodley beat out McCarthy for a Globe nomination. But McCarthy received a SAG and BAFTA, which gave her plenty of momentum.
The other 4 were pretty much set in stone prior to the nominations being announced. She was terrific in The Descendants, and I think she'll probably end up with a nomination sooner or later.

Because she was shrill and artificial, and stuck playing a poorly-realized character. That, as well as the rotten, condescending voice-over, are just two examples of why The Descendants didn't deserve that Oscar as much as some other films. It's not a bad film at all, just not that good.
