I have no faith in Die Hard 5 being any good based on the hiring of that hack screenwriter whose whole resume is shit. They should have never made any sequels to the first film.
The bolded part is exactly what I thought was awesome about it. In the 1980's, everyone was a superhuman killing machine like Arnold Schwarzenegger, and so John McClane as the everyman, the human being, that was interesting.

Cut to 2007, and every action hero is a sensitive "real man", so I was greatly amused to see that the new Die Hard was a revival of silly, over-the-top '80s action. I don't think McClane via Jason Bourne would have been nearly as entertaining. As I've mentioned elsewhere in this thread, I really wish it was rated R, but I still find that it's a fun movie.

That's the big one. I really need to rewatch this and jot down all the places I notice.

But be wary with the scene of Willis taking over the radio to Olyphant towards the end. In the commentary Wiseman mentions that while shooting that scene they had no lines for Willis so he just said random crap. They ADRed the real dialog in post. So there's no way to fix that scene beyond a reshoot.

I don't think this will get made, we will hear at some point in the future that the project is dead.

I liked the last one enough to watch another one.

wasn't a huge fan of the last one. it was a good action flick, but just seemed so generic and didn't really fit in w/ the other Die Hard movies. Having said that, I'd go see a 5th one. Hopefully they are smart and make it an R like the 1st three movies were.

I think Stallone should do DH5. Rocshemp brought that up. I mean...we all know he could bring it.

Keep em coming as far as I'm concerned. I hope they don't go with an international storyline, where he's saving the entire world or something. Just return it to an enclosed location, set it at Christmas, throw in a few cameos and we're good to go.

I'm just glad they're not trying to "reboot" the damn franchise. Seeing a sequel is almost refreshing these days.

By that logic, they already did Die Hard 5. I think it was called "Armageddon."

Aside from the Bourne films and the James Bond reboot, I feel like most of the action movies coming out today feature super human protagonists. Just off the top of my head, pretty much every Jason Statham movie is that way. I just feel it was a big mistake to call it Die Hard since it went against everything the first film established about the McClane character. If they wanted to keep the script like it was, just change McClane's name to something else and then it would have nothing to do with the series and it wouldn't bother me so much.

Re: Die Hard 5 >> Bruce Willis (tentative 2011)

To me Die Hard 4 worked because it dropped the 'wrong place at the wrong time', just a normal guy routine.

After the events in DH 1-3 McClain pretty much knows that he is just a badass, so he pretty much gave up the 'how can this keep happening to me?' and excepts that he'll just kick these guys ass just like he had done the in the previous movies.

Besides Die Hard, DH4 is my favorite.

Re: Die Hard 5 >> Bruce Willis (tentative 2011)

They should set DH 5 at his daughter's wedding in a big building at Christmas in L.A. with Powell as an usher who's also packing. Turn it into a hostage situation with Olyphant's cousin/brother/step-mother wanting revenge against him. It could work....:-) Until then...enjoy:

Re: Die Hard 5 >> Bruce Willis (tentative 2011)

As I view this thread in the forum, it is right under the thread for the 5th Fast and Furious movie, and it made me think... why not combine the two franchises?

Bruce Willis meets Vin Diesel.

Die Fast, Die Furious, Die Hard
or
The Fast and the Furious Die Hard

I'd buy tickets to that.

Re: Die Hard 5 >> Bruce Willis (tentative 2011)

I love the Die Hard movies. I'm all for a 5th entry in the series.

Die Hard - One of the greatest action movies of all time. An absolute classic and the measuring stick by which all modern action movies (non sci-fi) are judged.

Die Hard 2 - Almost as good as the first. It's a bit of a rehash, but so what? It's fun, it's got great action, and it's got John McClane. And it's got Django!

Die Hard With A Vengeance - Good. Very good. It does feel off, and McClane's descent into the bottle at the beginning of the movie isn't consistent with the character we saw in the first two movies. The Lethal Weapon buddy cop type movie (and it was written as a Lethal Weapon movie, was it not?) works OK, but that's the other big non-Die Hard aspect of the movie that keeps this one from being as good as the first two.

Live Free Or Die Hard - Better than the last one, but not as good as the first two. Is John McClane superhuman in this one? Hardly. He gets the hell beat out of him (again). But he is more confident than in the previous movies because he is older, wiser, and knows that he's done this kind of thing before. Experience makes him more confident. McClane couldn't be exactly the same as in the first two movies because he's older and has the, "Been there, done that," factor that he couldn't have previously.

#5 ?? Bring it on!

Cop Out would like a word with you. It's his best film to date IMO.

As long as he keeps the editor that butchered the action sequences of The Expendables the fuck away from this movie, I'd love to see him direct this. And I love your idea of Stallone as the villain.

are you serious? it was like he was just reading his lines to get a paycheck. Tracy Morgan was that movie; not Willis.
