Re: Chronicle (2012) - Found-footage superheros

Saw this last night as well. Effects were great, the airplane roaring through the clouds scared me since I didn't know which direction it was coming from.

It was a good movie but in the end it just felt a bit pointless.

Also, it's without a doubt the shortest live-action film I've seen. An hour and 15 minutes or so.

Re: Chronicle (2012) - Found-footage superheros

I generally love shaky cam movies and lost footage and all (Cloverfield is one of my favorite movies) but this was the wrong story for that technique. Should have just done it as a normal flick. the whole last third felt silly in this style and made it all the more ridiculous. First half was much better but when it crossed the line, it really crossed it.

Re: Chronicle (2012) - Found-footage superheros

I wasn't expecting much from this, but my son wanted to see it. I was surprised how much I enjoyed it. I wish they would have been more faithful to the "actual footage" aspect. Some of the shots in the movie were unexplainable as to where they came from. They could have gotten more creative with the camera shots in the final battle, too. But overall a very good movie.

Re: Chronicle (2012) - Found-footage superheros

The scenes where the girl is also shooting are totally off. Again, it's really nitpicking, but her camera is at a 90 degree angle and the shot is about 5 degrees off at best. Would have to watch it again for the final battle, but a few of those looked like cheats to me too.

Re: Chronicle (2012) - Found-footage superheros

I think I would have liked this movie better if I went in with no expectations, but the good word of mouth put me in the frame of mind that this movie was going to be something that it wasn't. It was ok, but just barely so. I agree that this was the wrong movie to do the found footage thing with. Outside of maybe being cheaper to film, I think that only took away from the potential this movie had.

I thought the tortured kid would eventually use these powers as a shining window of hope but guess not. Also it got goofy at the end, ala "i hate you all!" "but we love you!" "but i hate you!" "but we love you!"

Re: Chronicle (2012) - Found-footage superheros

My biggest complaint with this one is that they apparently didn't try to figure out what it was that gave them the powers. After the cops told them to leave the area, they just gave up. That and Andrew did a horrible job of acting like he was flying at the end.

seriously they might as well have not erased the wires that were holding him up...would've made him being off balance the ENTIRE time make a little sense at least.

I love how these threads always mysteriously get bumped just before the blu-ray's been released but months after the movie's been out of theaters.

You'd think people would be a little more discreet.

I'm guessing they used the entire $12m budget up and then realized it looked off, and said fuck it.

Still really enjoyed this one, thought it was a fun movie.

You don't have any cheap theaters for older movies around you?

It's currently playing at the local $2 theater. I was thinking of checking it out actually.

Well worth the $2.50 I paid but I'm glad I didn't shell out full price when it first hit theaters.

I would love a sequel

Spoiler:
if they were able to bring back Steve. He was a better character than either of the other two.

I could see this sequel as the Gov came in and took the source and turned a bunch of army test subjects into super soldiers.

Maybe we're struggling to figure out what you meant, since the obvious inference (that Noonan was a studio shill for the blu ray release) doesn't make much sense since he's been a member here for over a decade.

Wow, that's what you got out of "be more discreet"?

Why would I ask a studio shill to be more discreet?

Because they aren't allowed to post here? And they'll very often pretend to be a member to drum up interest?

Or why don't you explain your post, instead of doing your normal bullshit thread derailing? Or better yet, why not just refrain from interjecting in the first place?

This wasn't too bad. I actually enjoyed a good bit of it.

He surely does not mean that thread bumps of older movies seem to directly relate to the day they appear online for free. I have definitely never noticed that myself

Side note, I wish we had a cheap theater in San Diego.
